Economically successful countries often result in people becoming more materialistic and preoccupied with life's extravagances rather than life's necessities. We are substituting things that we perceive as necessary for those that really are. Children that are born into more affluent situations then, feel that they deserve everything they get. More and more, people don't have to work for anything, instead it's just handed to them. You couple the goal of material possessions and monetary gain with the idea that you DESERVE the things you have ends in laziness IMO
As for those who are lazy in developing or "poor" countries, this can still be linked back to the extravagances of the capitalist world system. Those in the periphery or the semi-periphery are often caught in the viscious cycle where they are stuck being the backs upon which the system is built and there is no perceived way out. So, they do their job, and go home. Often we see increased petty crime, drug and alcohol abuse and domestic violence in these areas, as well as higher levels of faith in religion.
