What's with people who always hear things their own way

Got this friend he always hears different sh1t than what's going on. Whether it be music or just words (can be words to a song or just someone speaking.) We were prank calling Barnes and Noble bookstore today and I told the chick I needed to return a book that was all busted up, pages were falling out and stuf. Somehow he heard "I bough a book called bust'em up" but still heard that the pages were falling out. Sometimes he will repeat to me what he heard in a video or song and then when I look at it it is something completely different.
Anyone knows people like that? Feel like I need to tell him son, go get your ears checked.

lol you know those commercial calls from campanies? like electricty providers and such. Or when a phone company calls and gives u an offer.
I always ask them everything i can possibly think of, like, what does it cost? Are you 100% sure it will be cheaper in the end? What about installation costs?
And then i simply say, no thx and hang up. ;p

In the Netherlands we got a saying for that it's called "Oost-Indisch doof" which if you review it is quite racist xD
