Anyone here who is good at math ?

I have a funny equation:

x = y
x + x = x + y
2x = x + y
2x - 2y = x + y - 2y
2(x - y) = x + y - 2y
2(x - y) = x - y
2(x - y) = 1(x - y)
2 = 1
---
So what went wrong?
I know this is pretty old, but still, it's fun.

i dont see what is funny. i just see someone screwed up. How did they get to 2=1 from 2(x - y) = 1(x - y)?

i dont see what is funny. i just see someone screwed up. How did they get to 2=1 from 2(x - y) = 1(x - y)?
You divide each side by x-y
Well, the equation is perfectly correct.
So I guess one is equal to 2.

No that part's is right. -2y+y=-y But what Innovacious said, if x=y, x-y is 0 and you can't divide by zero.

hmm I think that thats the answer, i dont know much anyways, with 13 years I cant know if theres anything harder or a hidden process to do there.

You no equal smart. Understand? You're in 10th grade, that makes you dumb. You think you're smart because you take 'higher' math, so your basis is on how much you know, well then you'd be dumb by your own standard because you don't know anywhere near enough to be considered smart. The main reason is you're in 10th grade, come back in 20 years and maybe you'll have touched the edge of the word 'smart'. No need for your ego to run out of control here even if your mom reminds you you're smart everyday.

I suck at algebra and geometry. I'd have to bust out a textbook to remember how to do that crap.
