Well, I have been wondering for quite some time, Why is my internet connection going as fast as its meant to be going.

When i go down to the bottom to check the speed thingy it says -
Status: 10.0Mbps

Why cant i get it to that fast? When i'm downloading stuff it only goes 50kbps.

Help plys??

It's not actually megabytes per second, It's megabits. Also downloading depends on the person/server you are downloading from..and other connections, etc.

I'm fairly sure a megabit is something like 128KB or close. I just know when it states '10 MBPS' it's not megabytes.

That means i should be going about 1.1megabytes per sec.... But i'm going 50kbps ummmmmm....
Anyone know how to get it going to its maximum?
Also, I'm downloading just from normal Fileplanet and stuff using my download manager built into FF

I can't remember why but the actual speed will be a lot lower than what it says. So it's just your internet...unless it downloaded faster before.

Is it for all your downloads? Sometimes it depends on who you dl from. My school has the dl speed capped at 30 kbs. It's impossible to play GW and stream music at the same time.

I think the 10MBps is what your router/modem can handle ...

If it says Local Area Network 10MBps ... then yeah it's not actually your dload speed rofl.

well let say in Israel it goes with Megabits, so its not that ur speed is actually what u think it is, for example my internet is 2mb so it has 260kb download speed max, so ur 10mb probably has max of - 1300kbps ,

but some server would not allow to download with your maximum speed, so u have to use some accelerators that will open few downloading channels , u can try download accelerator plus(dap) or maybe flashget...

btw it says that im connected to 100mb :P

i have the correct answer to this

example: 20 mb speed, but you only get 4 mb (in theory)

why? the closer you live from a television tower or those big places where all the connections go to, the faster your connection. I live pretty far so i only get 20% of my speed.

Firefox, if you really have 10MBps internet .. and you get download speeds of 25KBps on fileplanet .. either:

You don't have 10MBps
You live in Oezbekhistan
You have some sort of gay 92nd hand modem

I have 5MBps internet at home .. never have under 250KBps no matter what time of the day on Fileplanet .... school has crazy ass internet .. don't dare say exactly .. but with a Fileplanet account I dload with 9MBps there ...

So dunno what's happening on your end...

Just because your modem can download at maximum 10mbps, doesn't mean the guy on the other end can. Even if his max is 10mbps also, there's a ton of reasons why it could run slower. This is why when you download crap off P2P you don't instantly get maximum rates.

When i go down to the bottom it says Speed:10.0mbps.

Go to http://www.speedtest.net

Do the test on a 'yellow' sphere ie the closest one to you. Report back.

Distance ~1200 mi ... damn nothing closer ? :S Hmm Well according to that you have 2-3MBps internet aka 300~400KBps actual dload speed on average.

Hmm, shame your so far away from a test point =/

Ok when downloading it goes at around.... 56kbps. I need it to go faster and by that test it said it should be going faster.

BTW, this is advertised at 6mb/s net I believe, so yeah.
And I can never get more than 1.9mb/s downloading using 5 channels.

If your max speed is 400kb/s and you live somewhere like Australia your never gonna get speeds like that when your downloading.
