Oh wow, someone beat me to it. And to think I thought that no one on SRF reads.

It's NOT true, EVER! But if you had read the book (spark note it) you'll know it was derived to make truth and beliefs distinct while getting into some psychological stuff. Good book.

Not if you write it down like that.. If you write it down like (1+1)*2 then it does equal 4..

2+2 cannot be 5 , i heard about this thing long time ago.. and the proffesor or whoever was trying to prove it used some kind of mistake in his calculations..

anyways its bull shit .

if 2+2 would be 5 humanity would be in big trouble i guess, and probably needed to recreate whole math cause it would break mathematic rules :p

Uhm, ok, I'm bad at math, heck, i had to cheat to pass math. but, how can 2+2=5, thats like saying 100+100=201, if 2+2=5, then why can't we all just say fck it and add an extra number to everything o_o

i found the answer taken in yahoo question thing

That is an advanced mathematics assumption. It can if you redefine addition and use the same sign +...
For example let # represent a sign of our new addition, and + be still the sign in the old one
If we define x#y to be x+y+1, and then rename # with +
than 2+2=2#2=2+2+1=5... So in that case the answer is yes.
But with addition as we know it, and study in school 2+2 can't be 5.

i highly doubt its right but who knows
