Win Vs Mac Vs Linux

Sorry for yet another one of these threads...it's just that I got the sudden curiosity to know which one ya'll prefer.
I use Linux.

im for windows xp just because unlike the other 2 everything works on it so i dont have to fuss for a patch or a program to run games and stuff

but I hate microshit's marketing
like selling halo 3 on xbox 360 only. Thats supposed to be marketing strategy but you can make a lot more money selling halo 3 to computer players

I used linux for a while after the evil HL computer store reformatted my drive for having illegal software and an illegal OS
but then I put Server '03 back on it

macs deal with graphics better
windows is more compatible with things
linux is better with networking and is more stable (well, i suppose that depends on which version of linux but meh)
they are all good in their own ways. I use windows cus the compatiblity is alot more useful than everything the others offer

As said they are all good for different things. Windows XP for me for ease of compatibility. I may upgrade to vista if I get 2 gigs of ram in my laptop, but I don't see that happening anytime soon so

I run SRO in Ubuntu through Wine. It works alright, but could be better, depending on the version of Wine I use.

Darwine, which is Wine for the Mac. I've never owned a mac to even try this, but I wonder if SRO would work under that?
As for which OS, it depends on what you're going to use it for. All of the operating systems listed have their uses. I rebuild my home system from time to time depending on what I want to use it for, or if I simply get bored with the current setup. At one time I had it dual booting XP and Gentoo. Sometimes it's XP only, currently it's Ubuntu only.
For every-day use at home, I do prefer Linux. Although Windows does run games like SRO better. At least I'm able to play SRO in Ubuntu. It's just having some graphic problems, but I can deal with that.

Yeah but many people who game on PC's also game on Xbox's -- so why not release it only on xbox at first, then make another profit when its released on the pc. This is the way that Microsoft handles business. Macintosh on the other hand is a godsent -- in one year of using OS:X I have had 3 crashes/lockups with extremely intensive memory/processor load. Windows couldnt touch that.
Oh, and both rigs Im using are very nice machines, so it aint the hardware. The only thing a PC is good for now is gaming, and programs only available for PC. I could install bootcamp on my mac, but why expose it to the plethora of virus's/issues on the interweb afflicting windows based systems. Lol, viruses on a mac...mac users dont even need antivirus software, scanners, spyware...mac has us covered 100%.

windows, i've seen macs. my uncle owns like 10 of those things including one ancient black and white screen with a total of 40mb hard drive space (lol) anyway those things work in a very illogical way. you click the cross and it makes the programm turn small you allways have to quit it trough the annoying menu or use the stupid hotkeys. i've never seen linux but from what i've heard it's kind of difficult to work with, and is only good for people who know a lot about computers.

Perhaps you should check out some of the newest mainstream distros of Linux then. Ubuntu is well-known as very user friendly. You can boot your system with an Ubuntu 7.04 CD and check out the system without actually installing it (like any other LiveCD) and if you want to install it on your hard drive, answer a few simple questions, and within about an hour depending on your system, it's all installed. It's always worked out-of-the-box for me.
Other distros like Fedora and Mandriva are similar.
There is a
wide variety of distributions out there for Linux that have their pros and cons, and level of difficulty. Gentoo and Slackware (at least Slackware before version 10...) are a bit more technical.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04. I have an nvidia fx 5200 AGP card in the system. Running I believe wine 0.9.45 and the latest Linux drivers from nvidia.com.

ati support sucks, can't wine anything beyond like minesweeper, well i can do photoshop and fireworks, nothing with any kind of directx in it

nVIDIA FTW! SRO is working good for me, except huge spots of the ground wherever I go are just grey, no texture to them. Some mountains are see-through as well. However, I can still maneuver around and grind. It hasn't hindered me much, just looks odd. Might just need to change a config setting.

Neither my ATI or my Nvidia run well under Ubuntu.
Unless I want to be staring at a rainbow-colored screen while grinding.

I heard that the only drivers AMD released for opensource was for 2D only, not 3D.
Can always keep those fingers crossed for the future.

AMD is a processor chip manufacturer. Did you mean ATI? I know there are open source 3D drivers for nVIDIA.
