Anyone out there a Buddhist. I try to practice it but i have trouble cause im impatient, oversensitive, and hold onto grudges. But i try. I meditate at least 1 hour a day but i still eat meat. >> beef and chicken are hard to give up.

So if your a Buddhist how do you practice, where do you struggle. Are there things you don't believe in that part of the Buddhist faith etc. I just wanna hear from some other out there.

Appreciate the value and simplicity of life. Respect the flow of karma on our way to seeking enlightenment. Try to increase the positivity in the world around us (basically respecting karma). But most importantly realize and try to follow the 4 truths.
-Existence is suffering
-Suffering is caused by desire
-Eliminate desire=eliminate suffering
-Eliminate desire by following the 8 fold path

Thats basically it. You don't have to complete the 8 fold path the important thing is that you attempt. Some ppl believe enlightenment can be reached in 1 lifetime others think several....>> im trying to do it in one.

Or you are.. Emos think of life like that too right? So why live your life if you think it's suffering? For a greater purpose?

I'm not trying to put you people in a lil box or anything.. But to me saying life is sufering is like saying you're emo..

Respecting life is totally different from saying it's suffering.. Even if you THINK/are CONVINCED it's suffering it might not be for other people.. So by saying i'm ignorant because I disagree with something is being ignorant yourself..

My dad's Buddhist, he brought me to a temple in town a couple times and I spoke to a monk, read a bunch of books.

I'm in the spiritual process of converting, but as a person i'm not ready yet. My values are there, but my personality is not...yet.

And Buddhism isn't about eating vegetables or not swearing. As Buddha said it himself, no one can teach you the path to enlightenment, only tell you his and you have to find your own way.

I think to truly follow buddhism you have to throw on an orange toga and hang around a temple all day meditating. Totally ditch everything you own and want and just sit around living.

About the meat part, I am a Buddhist myself but I eat meat lol, I'm not a monk after all. However, I don't eat beef as my god is "Guan yin".

What I think about Buddhism is that they focus on the afterlife. All your actions will affect your afterlife, aka Karma.

You would have to understand the concept of life's eternal suffering and believe that your goal in life is to escape it. Furthermore, you have to understand why meat is not normally eaten and accept the consequences.

In Thailand they're mostly Theravada. If you were to convert you would be Mahayana.

This topic reminds me of a great book, Harp of Burma. I'm Buddhist but I've never really looked up on the details. I just pray sometimes when I feel like it.

How can I explain this. All things come from the oversoul, its like all things that ever existed and will exist. It is eternal and instant all at once if you can wrap your mind around it. All things come and must return to it. So while we are given life and form this is actually a perversion of our natural state, but a necessary perversion. During our life we gain memories and knowledge which rejoins the oversoul when we die causing it to grow and spreading life. But like i said this life that we live is not our true state so we must overcome it.

To do that we must overcome all things of this saha world. Saha would be like say a dream world but it literally means "rosebush like", something that is beautiful to observe but its thorns will harm those who try to grasp it to tightly. Desire is the tie that binds us to this world. The desire to live the desire to die the desire to eat the desire to love and laugh etc. This is not to say life shouldn't be lived to the fullest because the Buddha himself realized that denying himself all the pleasures of life was just as bad as over-indulging in them. Moderation, the middle-way is the key.

that is my interpretation as of now. People evolve and grow and change everyday so hopefully i'll get a better grasp of it all sooner or later. Wikipedia explains the 4 truths better heres what they say

Wikipedia wrote: 1. The Nature of Dukkha: All life is suffering. This is the noble truth of "dukkha": the word "Dukkha" is usually translated as "suffering" in English. Birth is dukkha, aging is dukkha, sickness is dukkha, death is dukkha; union with what is displeasing is dukkha; separation from what is pleasing is dukkha; not to get what one wants is dukkha; to get what one does not want is dukkha; in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are dukkha. This first Noble Truth reflects on the nature of suffering. It comments on types of suffering, identifying each type in turn. A more accurate simplification of this truth is "Life is full of suffering."
2. The Origin of Dukkha (Samudaya): Suffering is caused by desire. This is the noble truth of the origin of dukkha: It is craving which leads to renewed existence, accompanied by delight and lust; that is, craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, craving for extermination. The second Noble Truth reflects on the sources of suffering (Dukkha.) Put very simply, it states that suffering results from expectations linked to our desires, and our attachment to those desires themselves.
3. The Cessation of Dukkha (Nirodha): To eliminate suffering, eliminate desire. This is the noble truth of the cessation of dukkha: It is the remainderless fading away and cessation of that same craving, the giving up and relinquishing of it, freedom from it, and non-reliance on it. The third Noble Truth reflects on the belief that suffering can be eliminated. It asserts that it can be done, and that it has been done.
4. The Way Leading to the Cessation of Dukkha (Magga): To eliminate desire follow the Eightfold Path. This is the noble truth of the way leading to the cessation of Dukkha: It is the Noble Eightfold Path; that is, right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration. [7][9]

And thinking that being a Buddhist means giving up everything and living in the middle of nowhere is a misunderstanding. Thats just the way some ppl choose to practice the teachings of the Buddha. As long as you follow the 4 truths and the 8 fold path you are a Buddhist imo.

If you study the bodhisattvas, you understand that the path to enlightenment is varied and open to thieves, prostitutes and beggars as it is to kings and monks.

I recommend "How to See Yourself as You Really Are" by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for an introduction to the practical application of Buddhist thought.

I thought it was also called Fong Sai Yuk (checked on wiki its aka The Legend). Love the bit when he says that his name was Wong..... Jin ^_^. Anyway I digress.

Emo's are people who hates themselves (pop culture), as oppose to people with borderline personality. So its not comparable to religion of any sort.

@All the buddhist here, gl as well to your path to enlightenment.

>> never read anything by the Dalai Lama before (didn't even know he wrote books) but i'll look into them. I because Buddhism is a lifestyle its alot harder to take in and understand even the basic concepts because while at its core the teachings are the same how you go about learning them is completely different for each individual.
