im adding a mod that seemed simple enough until i hit this, granted its designed for subsilver but i use a dif template on my forum and it dont have this

It looks to me like whatever the script is trying to put in that file is already there anyway, so you are probably safe to comment that instruction out.

includes/def_auth.php


is this file with an older version of phpbb because i dont have it at all has it changed name

I believe that file isn't present in any release of PHPBB so you should be fine skipping that step as well.
