Thread Of The Week?

Simple Really. Vote whether or not you would be interested in a Thread of the week?
Not saying it will happen for sure, but, just want some general feedback.
My Sketch Idea of how we could do it.
-5 Top threads are picked, probably by a mod, and in this case, probably zypher as this is his section
-People vote on a poll, and the top thread is stickied for the week. With a history of past top threads underneath it.
-Only offtopic threads would be eligible
Yes? No? Maybe? Vote Away.
If you vote, please explain why

i voted yes, i think it would encorage people to put that extra effort into their threads rather than half a**ed efforts.

I wasn't sure at first, but Mr. Soul here has a point, so if it can improve things, give it a try I'd say.

hm on side it sounds like a good idea
keeping focus on a few outstanding topics, might light up the section some more
then again.. honestly.. Im not sure if it is necessary, good threads don't die very quick anyway, as long as people dont start sh~t
and people still go off topic to soon and then the topic dies anyway.
Im not sure if stickying a thread would encourage people to move back on topic.. or if the topics would just lay to waste
if this will be implemented I just dont hope people start their flame sh~t there too >.>
all this coming from a person with a few months of somewhat active SRF contribution
vote? yes. give it a try, see how it goes

I have a feeling this thread of the week thing will only encourage people to make more idiotic threads.

Let's not forget this was my idea.
Credit where credit is due.
I don't see any negatives to this notion so let's get this ball rolling.

I agree. There will be flames in the possibly "opponents" threads, like - omg, onother gay thread and ect. BUT it's a very good idea...and we simply can try it out, because...do we lose anything if we risk? No
So...yes
PS. Who takes the risk, drinks shampagne later:D

I disagree, I cant see the logic in people making idiotic threads to obtain thread of the week. That just doesnt make sence.
Sure you'll still have these people starting pointless threads but i cant see how this would increase the number of these.

Well there would be more stupid threads of course but I think there would be a few good threads worth making thread of the week. Don't really set rules for the kind of thread that would be eligible, other than not complete spam-ish retardedness. You know what I mean.
I think it's a good idea
Is it possible to change my vote to the 'Yes, but for the entire forum' option? lol

I voted yes because it would be good to have popular threads stickyed for a bit to show what other people have to say n' stuff

On-Topic: I say yes, primarily for the reason that I believe WE, as in we normal Forum users should have an opportunity for our own threads to be stickied. Not just the occasional announcement about how Spam Games are banned. Something a little more interesting. Maybe news about how a two-hundred foot dog was discovered living in a igloo in Antarctica.
It's time for some interesting threads to get stickied.
Besides, I can't see any downsides to this. Why would people make "idiotic threads" in response to this? People that do that aren't the kind of people we want around these Forums anyways.
My opinion, is all.

Thread of the week? Be prepared for a level of idiocy not yet witnessed before on a forum then. The attention whoring and thread spam will go far beyond what we have now. People will do it MORE so they can be in the running for thread of the week.

It might improve the general quality of the posts, BUT it might decrease it. I cannot asses the effects of having something like this.
In the first place, it could lead people into posting good, valuable stuff. This is the desired effect.
On the other hand, it can create tons of spam as well as attention whoring threads.
Every coin has two sides, Soda. Flip the coin and see which side comes out on top.

I believe the thinking that it will hurt the forum is a flawed one. Mostly likely the TotW will either be determined by a mod or be majority consensus. A mod is not going to pick a shit thread and neither will the majority of the people (having faith in the forum here). So naturally people will know that shit threads aren't going to publicized besides the flamming that goes on w/in them. There might be an initial pickup of crap from once this starts but I think we will see the same or less than as we do now.
