Note- I'm still a little shaky, so please excuse my typing.

Well, I don't know if people will sympathize with me, or call me an attention whore.

But, my grandpa is a 70 year old man. And he never ceases to amaze me.

At 7pm Monday, July 31, 2007, he was flying his Experimental Plane, and the engine cut out. His plane the dissapeared into the woods.

The search set out at 9:45 pm. By 11 pm, it had been called off.

At 4 Am, Tuesday, August 1, 2007, my father recieved a call from my grandmother. He was alive. They never found him, or the plane. My 70 year old grandfather walked out of the wreck, two miles to a house, where the paramedics were called. He only has a few broken ribs, a black eye, some bruises, and a slightly broken hand.

Wow...

I am really amazed, that a 70 year old man had the strength and determination to survive that he could walk out of a plane wreck. That also must've taken great pilotting to get a plane to land so easily when it didn't have an engine.

A man from Howell County, Missouri crashed his experimental airplane Monday night, but was able to walk about two miles to get help.

Dispatchers say they got a call about 9:45 pm, after a local man piloting an experimental airplane took off from the Willow Springs Airport.

They say he was circling his property just north of the airport when his wife heard the engine cut out. The plane then disappeared.

Searchers were looking both on the ground and in the air for the wreckage, which they still have not found.

Dispatchers say the pilot walked until he found a home where he could get help. He was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.

I don't care if you flame me, or sympathize with me. I just needed to tell somebody to make myself feel better. I don't know how, but this will help me feel better.

Thanks for not saying it's another blahblah thread
I don't think luck had anything to do with it, luck is a side effect of hard work. He was a great pilot, I think he was able to hit the tree tops just right so it was less intense.

Your grandpa is very lucky, and You're lucky to know a guy who can walk out of a plane crash of any kind.

It brings more pride in my grandfather. He's already amazing. A level headed, well minded man at 70 years old. He built his own house (at 68) and keeps himself incredibly busy. I don't see him dying anytime soon.

It makes me realise that life is to short and can end any moment. I don't intend to waste it as I have been after yesterday and today.

Well you see hun, in instances where there is an airplane, and it does this thing where is collides with the ground.. there's not really a high survival rate. Knowing someone who walks away with minor injuries is a kinda rare thing.. especially at that age. Knowing someone who can make it through that makes you value the people around you a little more.

Anyway.

I'm glad your grandpa is okay. I hope he recovers fast

Thanks Itonami. I really appreciate it. I have a feeling he'll be back to his old life in a few weeks. But they need to keep him in the hospital a while, he took a pretty bad hit to his head.

Is he still going to fly experimental planes?? Hopefully this hasn't damaged his hobby...

I seriously doubt he will stop flying planes. He has suffered through a lot worse. Skin cancer being the top. But he is now a farmer, which almost requires you to be in the sun. Good thing he has two planes eh?
