iPOD alternatives?

Ehh GrimJaw + others sparked me to make this so here we go:
Soon I am to re-start schooling seeing as I took a 2 year break to work and gather some cash .. so I was thinking of some school supplies ... In that search I came across the grossly overprices iPOD. Knowing there were other mp3 players i went in search and found the MEIZU.
MEIZU coming from Dane-Elec a Japanese firm, and IMO FAR FAR better than an iPOD of the same price range.
Here's what I got:
INFO:
http://en.meizu.com/index.asp
Reason why I picked it is because the choice was either a mini iPOD with 1GB no screen and really .. too small for my big arse hands. And this Meizu can play dvd's in sweet quality ... that for the same price..
Now my question is, I know most of you own an iPOD but for those of you who don't or who are planning to buy a new mp3 what was or is going to be your choice ?

I have an ipod video and ipod mini. However, before those I used to carry around a pocket PC. With the proper memory card, you can store videos, music, AND have all the pocket PC features (email, internet browsing, games [portable AoE FTW])

I use a Creative Zen Vision which has better image quality than Ipods.

I don't want overpriced gadgets, I want music. And this one is easy to use, never failed so far and it also has a Gig of space. Does the job for me, and I like sticks.

Yeah i's handy .. but very small ... I handle it with too much care for the fear I drop it and it completely screws up. Has good quality vid's tho I have to admit.
And yeah crim .. that's the point of the thread comparisons. Seeing as iPOD dominate the market most people won't have heard of others. And well after buyin an alt to the iPOD and you guys too .. iPOD is for sure not the best... just very well marketed.

Google song lyrics, sing it back to myself whenever I run, may explain why I'm always out of breath and in shape.

I have an iPod, my dad has a creative zen vision, and my cousin has a zune. I think that i would go with the Zune.

Yea, my friend has a zune. That would be my choice instead of an ipod.

Haha, zunes are the laughing stock of the mp3 player market. Microsoft hyped them so much then not only are they selling poorly, but also Microsoft has stopped marketing them...
Poor zune.
As far as I know ipod is still the overall best mp3 player. While certain players might be right for diff people and other players might have features that are better, the ipod is still best overall. I've heard the sansa and zen are recommended besides the ipod for mainstream players.

My ipod has just enough space for my videos and music. It's nice and small. The video quality is very nice, unless compressed. Other then trying to prove i'm not a conformist, I wouldn't have a reason to buy anything else. Not to mention, apple discounts university students on almost all their products.

+ infinity.
I've own almost all digital mp3 players... iPods, Creative Zen, Microsoft, Sandisk, you name it.
All of them blows except the SanDask e series. I have no idea why people love their iPods.... you can't listening to the radio, you can't record, you have to install their crappy and buggy ITunes to transfer music, their high failure rates, and the list goes on and on.
I

my SanDisk Sansa e280, and the best part is that the memory can be expanded easily by a microSD memory card. The size is perfect, the screen is superb... and it happen to be much cheaper.

Yeah it reminds me of my 30GB creative nomad zen ultra i bought many years ago.
Zune wouldn't be so bad if microsoft hadnt severely cripple the wifi function
