I enjoy playing it while btwn reading forums or other games. It would be fun to start an SRO fleet (fleets are similar to guilds in SRO)

Tips for starting off:
1. must Validate email (respond to email sent to you, no spam sent to me, so safe)
2. on the left side go down to "Vote for Gold", vote all those possible to get lots gold to start - do that daily.
3. Go to "Crew Training" and train as much as possible, read the "Help" for explanations of options. When you run out vitality to train than force train or go to goldsmith to buy refill of vitality.
4. Explore the map, try to go with the wind (arrow at bottom right) stay away from reefs and check all islands to get doubloons (like gold).
5. "Walk Ashore" is like the menu area, under it you can attack by going to the "Who's Who of WMP" pick a low lvl player and attack, board ship and plunder it to get some thier gold.

Cool browser game, but is it fun? o.O

ya its pretty cool. takes just a short time to figure it out. the cool thing is they give you lots of gold to start as long as you validate and do the voting thing. (funny how they want you to vote for it to pump up stats, but you get gold so i dont care )

I just keep it open in another tab of my IE while i'm checkin the forums and stuff.

i'd choose pirates over ninjas any day but im going to pass on this....

how do you improve cannon hit percentage is it agilty navigation or artillery

i believe the hit percentage is based on navigation, how hard it hits is artilery, agility for making them miss, defense for making hits hit you for less, swashbuckling for boarding or defending from boarding.
