Cold war all over again?

The gist of the article is that Bush is proposing to install a missile defense system in Czech Republic to address the nuclear threats from Iran.
Russia's president Putin is saying that Iran doesn't have the missile technology to reach Europe and that what Bush's doing is an act of "initiate an arm race". So Putin is ordering testing on long range missiles, threat to target cruise missiles at some place in Europe. (kinda vague here)
Bush is on a trip to visit many destinations in Europe, however, the main focus is Russia.
This should be interesting. Doesn't it sound a lot like the Cold War all over again?

I'd be scared. It looks as though Putin is trying to undo all the work of the previous two presidents and bring back down the iron curtain.

or?..... Money...Oil...Gold...Diamonds...
Any commodity any country has. Why do you think America have done nothing about Darfur? The atrocities going on there are worse that what Saddam did in Iraq but..Darfur has no commodity so nobody cares.

nah, the ideologies of Russia and USA is MUCH more similar now, there wont be more proxy wars and revolutions throughout the world because imperialism is dead. It wont be another Cold War.... worse, this might be preemptive for real war

No offense but nobody here knows the real reason for the war, just a bunch of crackpot theories. But on topic this does sound like the cold war, hmm building missle defense systems just like then...there goes the arms treaty

Why would czech republic allow them building the missile system?
And wasn't Czech Republic using Russian oil... I guess they will choose oil over a defense system..

Lol @ Iran calling it the joke of the year. They're trying to make it look like they needn't be worried about.
Lies and slander, that.
Yeah that's all a bit worrisome...

So here is my questions:
Why the hell are we doing building a defense system for Czech Republic, Poland and such...? Aren't we having too much of a freaking problem in Iraq to think about? Maybe we need to take care of that before we start shit again.
Or are we having too much money and no where to spend?
Or is it like a demo thing? "Hi, this is Dubya, would you be interested in a free missile defense system for three month? Russia might aim their missiles at your a$$ but you're safe from nutwhacks like Iran!"
Seriously, Bush needs to back the fack up and stop meddling in other people business.

Support maybe?
We help them, they get our backs.. yeah kinda backfired with Iraq so we really shouldn't be spending our already in-debt asses off..

It's toy soldiers.
1 - Here, would you like this supercool defence system?
2 - WOW THEY HAVE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION THAT WE SOLD THEM, LETS PLAY WITH THEM!
3 - Oh darn, it wasn't weapons of mass destruction after all, it was a super dooper defence system they had all along.

Maybe if people stopped joining the army there wouldn't be any of these stupid problems. I mean if everyone leaves the army in a country that forces you to join the army...whose going to force you. And if everyone leaves the army then who do you need protection from.....i know if a naive and stupid dream but the average joe citizen of the world has always been in control of it. If more people realized that then i think we'd have alot less international problems

If no one joined, they would just do a draft.

Then someone starts a militia group and takes over the world with it because no one has any defence.

There's nothing wrong with MAD.
It leads to a tense peace, unless you're stuck with a country who doesn't give a **** about being destructed as long as the goes down to.
BTW I read somewhere that the majot threath of a nuclear weapon isn't dropping on the earth itself but above it.
It leads to the complete killing of all electricity producing systems and it takes a few years to rebuild them.
We'll be set back a few decades.

I love it when 16 year olds see their favorite movie star talk shit about Bush on TV then just repeat what they saw.
I also love how everyone on the internet seems to be an expert in international politics and american international affairs.
And knowing that 90% of SRF users are too young to vote (with reason) just makes me wet.
Besides, with global warming it wouldn't be called the "cold war" anymore - and that's Bushes fault!

Good points, but at the same time, there's nothing wrong at all with thinking about and being concerned with that kinda stuff. In fact I think it's a good thing for a 16 year old kid to be thinking about that stuff - most of em aren't.

what do you mean a "fifth", form the very beginning russia was fluff...i don't even know why the first cold war happened ...russia is far from a threat...just look at its terrible economy if Putin tried to something drastic there gonna do to him what they did to Mussolini.

The coldwar started somewhere after WWII. Stalin placed down the fundaments.
