True leet speak has been on a major decline, which is a great relief. Now though, people like to try to replace it with 4chan style talking. Personally, I call it retard speak. Seriously, some fuckers need to just use proper English, and quit looking like a total fucktard.

It wasn't invented to make it cool -.-
It was made by hackers, that were trying to create a code to communicate without the police getting it (fast).
Even the code you wrote in green isn't full 1337.
In 1337 you have to type as less real letters as possible, also something that is used often is the re-allocating of letters (eg. the = t3h)
I can type in full 1337, but it isn't handy.. You can type a full page in plain English in let's say 10 minutes and it would take you more then 30 minutes to type it in 1337.
It's not retarded, it's just history. Like old English and pirate talk =)
NOTE: The good point about leet is that it isn't restricted with rule, but in the contraire very flexible since you can use different characters for one letter.
