PS3 maker's game division posts $914 million loss for the first three months of 2007--and more than twice that for the full fiscal year. lol
Some customers might think the PlayStation 3's $599 retail price is high, but that's chump change compared to what the machine is costing Sony. The electronics giant today posted its financial results for the fiscal year and fourth quarter ended March 31, and as analysts predicted, the game division racked up significant losses.
For the fourth quarter alone, Sony reported an operating loss of $914 million from its game division, attributable primarily to the PS3. Sony's new machine was also responsible for a bump in gross revenue, as the company's gaming segment racked up sales of $2.4 billion and helped push company-wide sales to $17.7 billion, up 12.6 percent from the previous fourth quarter.
The full-year picture for Sony's gaming division was similarly grim, with the PS3 driving an increase in revenue, as well as operating losses. For its full fiscal year 2006, Sony's gaming group posted revenue up 6.1 percent to $8.6 billion, but suffered an operating loss of nearly $2 billion.

Exactly, and it doesn't even have a 60gb HD and will cost the same or more. With less features. PS3 lost money because THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH FREAKIN GAMES. That is all.

lol no not really, most people cant afford to spend $600+ on a console and games that are no different from a Xbox360 in terms of quality

lol silly fan boy, the gamecube had graphics 2 times better then the PS2 and the Wii has graphics 2 times better then the Gamecube...so you figure it out...and if you dont belilve me look at the Wii's specs, its just because only a few games really show how good it is, like 360 and PS3 (godfather, DBZ:BT2, LoZ:TP)

lol yea thats why theres a Xbox 360 Elite coming out with a 80GB harddrive and its still cheaper then the PS3. oh and for your information....as limited and misinformed as it is the PS3 and sony have made a HUGE loss because the PS3 is full of useless untested hardware that means each console costs around $1200 to make, thats why there no longer a 20GB model because there making a huge loss on each console they sell...also why PS3 games are so expensive when they come out. they sold it at $600 because they knew that was the cheapest they could sell at to make the least loss and the most anyone would pay for it
lol face it ok. Sony dropped the fracking ball big time here...and with a 2billion loss in just the few months the PS3 has been out its going to be a long time before they make a profit again

well rumor is (50/50) that theres going to be a XBOX360 version as well and seeing how the game has be delayed for such a long time..and reports of a now 2008 release maybe its true
