Source: A report on the Web site of Australian lifestyle and tech magazine Smarthouse cites a Sony insider as providing information that the company might be planning a PlayStation 4 to release in as little as 18 months.

Upon first glance, the very suggestion that Sony would release the PS4 in the next year and a half is absurd. The company invested heavily into the research and development of the PlayStation 3, and there's functionally no way it could make its money back and justify that expense after only a couple of years on the market.

Sony has also been vocal about wanting to extend the life span of its consoles to a decade, something that isn't likely to happen if the PS3 only has two years as the company's premiere offering. And then there would be the resulting looting, riots, and pillaging (hyperbole used for effect) from Sony fans who shelled out $600 for the latest and greatest on layaway, only to have it become old news by the time it was paid off.

It's probably going to be a huge upgrade of some sort or it could be something so stupid nobody cares, cus as of right now...thats the ps3.

the PS2 wasnt even out for 5 years before the PS3 came

LOL I wonder if they'll ever make another PlayStation after the craptacular failure that is the PS3. The chief executive of the PS3 had resigned recently. Sony made a big mistake thinking average players will cough that kind of dough to buy their consoles. If all we want is better graphics, we would play PC games now, wouldn't we?

they gave some long explanation aswell rounded up its advanced enough and they will bring out expansions and shiz

The ps3 is cheap considering it has a blue-ray player since they got like $500+ for a really cheap blue-ray player. And with all the other stuff in it, the Price a REALLY CHEAP.

go research i dont know but i know 100% they wont have a ps4 by 18months otherwise no one would buy it no good ps3 games are out by that point and technoloy is further ahead but no far enough to make a major impact on other consoles

That's not the point. AVERAGE players wouldn't spend that kind of money.

im gona buy a ps3 when good games are out now iv decided to go out and buy me a xbox360

i waited till my friend bought s ps3 then tried it but i then bought a 360 in a brilliant deal

if this ps4 thing happe, then Im switching to Nintendo or Xbox

meh, hate consoles ill stick to the PC for gaming. Although i wouldnt mind to have a PSP

my bto got both a 360 and a ps3, and they are both good, just sux 360 only has 1 good game, gears of war. PS3 doesnt have much good games yet, but its only released for like a month here, so thats not weird

This is why i hate sony. You buy a 500$ system thinking its the best. Then a year later a new Version of that system comes out. They've done it with every other system. Would not doubt it if it happens to the PS3.



Funny thing is, people gotten shot over the PS3. And now, i see about 10 of them gathering dust at my local Wal-Mart.

You spend a hell of a lot of money on consoles and even more on the games, they are so much better on the comp. And yeah i have a PSP
