Nintendo: 5.84 million Wiis sold

Nintendo today released its year-end sales figures, meeting its revised numbers and setting goals for its next 12 months. In addition to backing up the perception that the Wii and DS have already done gangbuster business for the publisher, the company's report also included its future expectations for the systems.

Perhaps most notable among the company's projections is the expectation that it will sell 14 million Wii systems and 22 million DS units in the next year. According to Nintendo's year-end results, since the Wii's launch in November 2006, the publisher has sold 5.84 million of the systems.

In the meantime, the DS, which launched in November 2004, has racked up sales of 40 million systems, more than half of which have been of the revamped DS Lite, which went on sale in Japan in March 2006, with US and European launches following that June. That puts the DS hardware sales (original and DS Lite combined) past the halfway point of the Game Boy Advance family's hardware sales (GBA, GBA SP, and GBA Micro) of 79 million. Comparing the DS to Nintendo's other previous generation creation, the GameCube, Nintendo has already sold more DS Lites (more than 21 million) than GameCubes (not quite 21 million).

Ripped off? I'm sure they have the idea but it's alot different then the wii. The technoledgy has been around for years, too. It's a gimmick, and will end up dying on the wii compared to sony's controller since it's normal. The future is with the ps3 and 360. And in the next year the ps3 and 360 will have some great games comming out, too.

yes it was ripped off..2005 Sony laughed at motion sensor controller
come 2006 after seeing what the Wii can do they rip it off. oh and your
right. the Sony controller is crap compared to the Wii-remote only has
1/5th of its capabilites.
And as for gimmick...lol yea thats why sony copyed it and even Microsoft
are planing their own version

No shit? In 2-3 year TOP the wii is going to be nothing more then a gimmick, Nintendo really farked up on their system and should of held off so it had more power to at least compete for the future. It only has a few good gems on it unlike the ps3 and the 360. Mgs4, GTA4(ps3/360), Halo3, DMC4, GT4, Assassins Creed, the FF series, and so on. It an overhyped system. And im sure that Sony and Microsoft will be making advancements on their motion sensing controlers, too. Yes, I won't disagree with you that the got the initial idea from the wii. But I think it'll do alot better on systems that can accomplish more with it.

If they go with the power route, they would lose to Sony/MS. Remember the Gamecube?

Mostly I consider the wii as a secondary console. Basically get a PS3 or X-Box 360 for all the graphical thing-a-jig and the Wii for controls.

that statement shows me you know nothing of the gaming industry if
anything Nintendo has hit pure gold with the Wii, its the only company
making profit from their console and its out selling the PS3 all over
the world.
Also as for saying that the Wii only has a few good games...lol what are
you on because i want some . i mean look at the PS3 only one
good game coming this year and thats MGS4, where as Nintedo has
a whole host of games that will be coming out and that are out which
are good games.

look its clear that you dont like the Wii, thats your opinon, but fact and
events of the last few months have shown us the Nintedo have hit the
nail on the head....Quality over Quantity. Play a Nintendo Wii or a DS
and you can see that they are more fun to play then a PSP or PS3

wow what are you smoking over there guy have you even played a Wii yet. Its contoller is not a gimmick its a breath of fresh air for the entire gaming industry. Nintendo didn't fark upp anything so far they're having a better sales than the PS3 or 360 did during this stage of there system life. The PS3 launch was sh*t, 3 days over overhyped nothing for a giant blue-ray player. Not to mention sony's lack of any good launch games its still losing to the 360 in terms of hardware and software sales for the year. Meanwhile the wii is sold out everywhere and not due to under-production at this point its due to an overwhelmingly high demand. If anything Sony farked up this time with the lowest sales of any 7th gen console and the worst reviews so far. And btw MGS4 is not a PS3 exclusive anymore konami's putting a version out for 360 so that means the only good thing sony's got the exclusive rights to so far is Final Fantasy....and lets be honest XIII doesn't even look good

dudes seriously, the Wii is just a couple of months old, the ps series is years old so the games of the ps are already known but the games of the Wii needs to get published yet. On the other hand, Nintendo has already really, really awesome games like Zelda for example. If you look at some reviews, zelda didn't get lower than an 9.

I have played a wii, it's "alright" but nothing special. It's fanboys like you who irritate the piss out of me. Sony did have a bad launch and will be making up for it later this year. They have sold more UNITS but sony has made just about as much money if more then nintendo. And MGS4 IS exlusive, you've been reading way too many rumors. If it's a breath of fresh air im sure sony and microsoft will make it even "fresher" personally i'll stick to my mouse and keyboard.

does the Wii have any rated "M" games or "T" even? im not into nintendo games like mario and zelda....and i kno thats bascailly wat nintendo is or at least was....

what planet are you on?? you know that a PS3 costs $1000 to make
and they sell them for $600....thats a loss. Hell Sony wont be making
any more from the PS3 for a few years because

1=they messed up production
2=hardware of the blu-ray
3=a BAD launch

compared to Nintedo who make a profit from a £180/$240 console which
only costs an estimated $100 to make

Basically says that they are producing a shit load of games and that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are both coming out this year.

but i always enjoyed mario esp mario 64.

so i googled the new galaxy game and it looks amazing.

idk if its buying a Wii tho.somone tell me
it its going to be rather long then ill prob think about it.
but if its going to be a short blah game.then i wont waste mymoney

It's not worht the money if you only like one particular title imo. If you're looking forward to multiple games like me, then a console is worth it. I can barely pay for car insurance though so I'm not getting a system anytime soon.

well i have a 360 and ive never played a game on it yet

so i could trade it in.

Note: That's 5.84 million of approximately 5.84 million shipped. <.< Damn hard to get one unless you know when exactly they're coming to a store nearby. Last shipment my store got, they only got one.
