[UPDATE] Sources close to Activision have since confirmed to GameSpot that the April 28 announcement will be for a "fourth" Call of Duty game. However, said source would not divulge any details about the game itself.

On the Web site of Call of Duty 2 developer Infinity Ward, an admin writes that some big news is coming out of the Encino, California-based studio this Saturday. After listing three famous events that have taken place on April 28, community liaison "fourzerotwo" says, "What goes down this April 28th is equal to, if not surpasses, the magnitude of any of those."

Even though the news posting makes no mention of any game details, fans are already predicting that the big news is a Call of Duty 4 announcement. Infinity Ward has yet to develop a game outside of the Call of Duty series, and Call of Duty 4 getting made eventually is almost a no-brainer.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus a new Call of Duty is going to be unveiled on April 28. However, WWII shooter fans shouldn't load their Panzerschrecks just yet, as the game could be set in modern times.

After a year-plus of rumors, Activision confirms the next installment in its first-person shooter series will leave WWII behind; game to be officially unveiled this Saturday during NFL Draft.

For months, rumors have raged that the Call of Duty series would follow in the footsteps of Battlefield, its biggest rival in the military shooter genre, into the modern era of warfare. Today, the franchise's publisher, Activision, made it official. Developed by COD creators Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will eschew the franchise's traditional World War II setting in favor of a fictional conflict set during contemporary times.

Unfortunately, the setting is about all that's known about COD4. No details--including platforms--were revealed to the press. Instead of issuing the typical press release, Activision has decided to unveil the game via a trailer that will be shown during the NFL Draft on ESPN at (10 a.m. PDT /1 p.m. EDT) this Saturday April 28.

In the past week, Call of Duty fans have been mercilessly teased by the companies behind the franchise. First, an Infinity Ward employee stated that the developer had some big news coming up this weekend, but declined to give any insight as to what it would be. Then, Activision confessed that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was in the works...and that it would forego a World War II setting and time-warp the series up to modern times.

Although I think Korean war wuld be suitable with all that nuclear testing and six country meeting shit , American gamers are probably more than happy to rape some Korean commie ass. But trouble is.... The Chinese fought the majority of the war against the Americans in that war and if they made it American campaign only like how they normally do one sided campaigns killing Chinese people they've instantly lost their market in China 1/3 of worlds population won't play CoD5 = fail for them because.
1. Chinese government will censor and block the game like with C&C Generals.
2. Chinese players will be offended with the shit and won't even buy it.

hmmm i'd rather they do wwii instead of some fictional future war like EA's bf2142, I'd be fine with a fictional modern not future war

ok just so long as they come up with something original and creative

but a vietnam or Korean war game would be soo boring

just different settings, different weapons, different vehicles, and everything else, HUD, gameplay, basic tactics, basic map types, etc are going to be the same

so little game/movies out there are based on the korean war. it seems no one cares about it anymore.

its because korean war is mainly china vs america unless they making both campaigns availible its not gonna sell good either in America or China.
plus at the end the US had to retreat, so thats not an ending that will please American players

Same gameplay and a fiction war with modern weapons would totally rock my socks. There has to be a rifle though, can't live without the kar
But I'd rather see an expansion for CoD2 with vehicles like with cod1, alot of noobies play with the vehicles makes the real game much more fun.

the "blood shell shock" thingy system for dying is not so much more realistic than medipacks in COD:UO

I hope it's set in the Vietnam war. I really haven't seen any outstandingly great Vietnam games.
