Getting a Wii

Alright, this weekend was the first opportunity I got to play the Wii. I can say I really enjoyed it. I have decided to go out and buy one and wanted some opinions on games and so forth.

I am paying $150 with my parents picking up the rest. I have another $50-100 to spend I'm thinking. I plan to get Zelda:TP because I've yet to play a Zelda game, and it seems cool. I am also reading up on Tiger Woods '07 because I want that too. I just want some input on these games or others I should consider. Thanks

IMO I think consoles are kind of a waste of money.

my dad once showed me whats inside an xbox or playstation and theres

hard drives, memory chips, RAM stuff, and other electronic things wired together.

He said its just a modified computer to play games, link up to TV, and allow the controlloer to be used

so basically your paying $300 for a "modified" computer that only plays games

while if you spend a little more, then you can get a computer that you can both play games, do homework, use internet, and download music.

dunno about you guys that are hardcore console gamers. I only owned a ps1 in my life so (although i played xbox, ps2, etc at friends house)

so my opinion might be biased but its just my own thought

right.....ps3, 360 and wii both have internet capabilities and their
games are cheaper then PC games and the consoles cost less.

but of course a PC is better in some respects

i agree

but consoles also become outdated quickly (actually PCs do too, mines 1 year old and my brother just got a new laptop which is ultra fast)

and consoles are not used anymore after they aren't popular

while computers can be used, even if they are 5 years old (a long time in electronics and technology)

Cool, thanks for the suggestions satman. I don't know, I just like the console idea. There are some games and stuff I like about PC and consoles.

Did you really have no idea that consoles and computers share similar components until your dad showed you? Even your family car, microwave, and calculator have some of those things.

To you a console might just be a "'modified' computer", but to game developers, it is the standard on which they must base their work on.

Unlike a PC, a console does not become outdated at three months and obsolete after one year of its release. Console games are designed to run on the same Wii, PS3, XBox, Dreamcast, NES, Gameboy, etc, that everyone has. In other words, unless the console malfunctions, you really won't need to get a new one until the next generation comes out a few years later, unless you really just WANT a game that is on a different system.

New PC games (and other programs as well), on the other hand, tend to push and exceed the limits of existing systems, forcing the player to either lower graphic and sound settings, and/or upgrade to a newer graphics card, which nowadays can cost just as much as or more than a Wii.

Computers still have some advantages (easier to use the internet, word processing, etc), but it's not as if consoles only play games. Even your old PSX has CD playback capability. And as far as pure gaming goes, consoles, I believe, generally provide more bang for your buck.
