"No sex please, we're daddy's little girls."

Good article to read.

Definitely a big plus in the Christian values. And personally, I agree with it because it's not a forceful method of doing thing (like disowning your daughter blah blah...).

i like the concept of the daughter not having sex until married, because now adays kinds having sex in middle school, hell they could of started in elem school now for all i know.

but having these ceramonies for it is just a tad bit weird imo.

Hah, i agree, but wait till they're older when the sexual hormones kick in. She won't be daddy's little girl then. Well..probably, but she'll still have thoughts...

Sex starts earlier than you think.

These ceremonies do nothing. You cannot stop the world from turning, and spinning you with it, no matter how hard you stand on the ground.

ugh
my two least favorite demographics in one article
Christians and Conservatives

You don't need a Ball you stay a virgin i doubt most families could afford somethign like that in america. Not to mention the insanely high divorce rate in the US so many "christians" breaking there wedding vows while at the same time denying gays the right to marry...

i know im a tad off topic but seeing the media glamorize the life of conservative christians in the US is starting to become annoying....its not news worthy that people are staying virgins till they're married and its certainly NOT a conservative christian thing *cough* teenage catholic pregnancy *cough*

I did that a few years ago when I was like 16 or 17 or so.

But the way we did it was we had to take a class every week and learn about sex, STD's, pregnancy, statistics, and what the Bible says about sex. Pretty insightful class.

All of the youth at the church were split by age groups. And I was in the same class as other 16 and 17 yr olds.

The sad/surprising part about the entire thing was that I honestly got he feeling that these other kids were just doing this to meet ppl to hook up with. -_- I'm serious. These ppl flirted the entire time.

I wasn't apart of it, cuz I didn't know most of them. Actually, I was only apart of the program cuz my mom made me do it (she's deeply Christian).

But at my church it was for males and females and we made our vows to God.

I cheated.

Lost my virginity like 6 months later.

40~50% of people under 18 will have sex.

And the same percent applies to people under 18 who've HAD sex. Or some other kind of sexual contact.

i think the % is alot higher than that. I can look around my school and honestly say 20% of the girls are pregnant and i know at leats another good 60% have had sex or oral with someone.....its natural man live and love just use protection

Woops, yeah thats what i mean, 40~50% of people under 18 has already had some sort of sexual contact

@ Zypher. The ceremony is a statement. It means a lot when you go through this instead of an afternoon chit-chat.

@ Draquid. No you can't stop other people but certainly you can control your own life. Pick your friends.

@Xemmas. I didn't think the article was to glamorize the 'conservative Christians'; rather it was about people taking a positive approach towards a social problem that we have, e.g. as you mentioned, teen pregnancy. And I agree that it's not new worthy that people remain virgin until marriage and actually, most of the time people who do this don't go bragging about it either.

To me, it's no news but it's what they do that sort of restores some of the faith we should have in the goodness of teenager spirit. I don't know about you but it seems like everywhere I look there's badness, for lack of a better term. Stuff like sex, drinking, dope, smoking, violence... I mean the other day, I read an article about a 11 year old giving oral sex to numerous of boys. WTF? I get panic when I see stuff like this.

I'm quite liberal. For example, I don't think people should be denied their happiness because they're gay. However, I Farking hate it when the media portrait gays as sex driven creatures, and I hate it worse when people go 'Gay Pride' and portrait themselves as such. /end gay rant

Edit: I want to point out that there's more to worry about sex other than pregnancy, STDs... There's also the psychological affect it leaves behind. I read an article the other day (I read.:)) that young girls behavior changed a lot after loosing their virginity. (Does anyone dare to concur this?) Not only that, academically, they perform much poorer. The affect is much more visual on girls than on boys I would presume.

4 things that popped to mind, going farther and farther from applicable to the story.

1. Creepy.
2. Out of all the freaky sex I've had, the 2nd freakiest was with a Evangelical Christian chick. Oh. My. God. It's so ingrained into them that sex is dirty that they (Self censor here. Whatever you think goes here probably does. If you don't know what should go here, go get laid newbie.)
3. I foresee a huge rise in BJs, cockteases, and anal from this simply because they're still "technically a virgin"
4. But I poop from there!

NOT TODAY YOU DONT!!

Mind if I ask if she thought it was so dirty, why did she do it?

Sex isn't dirty. Sex prolongs our existence. Sex bonds two people together. But it's a sacred thing, to me anyway and I think no girls should give it up until their damn sure, not because of 'he won't like me if I don't do this that'.

Because even 17 years of indoctrination isn't enough to overcome man's basest and most awesome desire.

And I totally agree with the rest of that. Certain religions regard sex as the closest man can get to God. And as anyone who's had sex can tell you, it's pretty damn close :D

Sex if perfectly ok in the right context go read the Song of Solomon it's an entire book pretty much about sex

But I say don't have sex unless your engaged or married cause otherwise you could get pregnant and the guy could leave you and you'll be stuck with a kid to raise

If you're THAT worried, tubal ligation is a minor outpatient procedure covered by almost every major insurance company, takes under an hour, and you can be back on your back again in a week.

If you're not, a pill once a day or a shot every three months isn't really too much work.

@Anh_Hung_Rom

yeah i get how you viewed that article as a positive light in our dark modern era. But stuff like that is like a distraction towards the real problems. The media's saying hey heres some positive examples of teens abstaining from sex. I dunno about you but thats not inspiring me. What would inspire me is if i saw more government programs aimed at reduceing the spread of AIDS and HIV among certain demographics (#1 leading cause of death among African-American women...thats nto cool :( ) What wold inspire me is seeing "Christians" act a little christlike for once and try to be more supportive of teen mothers, kids are stupid and make stupid mistakes. I get where your coming from that "badness: is everywhere but covering it up with sprinkles like Balls isn't makeing the badness go away and its not even keeping people informed of just how bad things are

There's nothing wrong with wanting to save yourself for marriage. Couples that don't sleep together until after they marry have a lower divorce rate. I am not sure if that applied to not with *anyone* until they marry, or just that particular person. But anyway. There's still something a little creepy and in my opinion a little wrong about turning common sense and personal choice into an elaborate indoctrination ritual thing.

The way I see it any parent has the right to keep their kid from having sex, period, at least until the kid is 18 or gets a job and moves out of the house, if that's what the parent decides to do. But you should tell your kid the truth and at some point let them go work it out on their own because sex is a part of life as an adult, not life as a child. It's not the parent's jurisdiction.
