The extent of one's will power...

What do all of you believe to be the extent of our mental capabilities? In other words, do you believe it is possible for somebody to transcend our generally believed and defined boundaries into something more? If you know anything about Ninjutsu and ninja lore, you'll totally understand what I'm getting at.

A good example that I honestly feel should be possible is telekenesis. It feels like if I exerted enough concentration and will power, I could move that cup over there, 10 feet away, into my hand. Without moving. It almost feels natural trying to do it. But hey I'm a crazy ass.

Anyways does anyone think like this? Or at least believe such to be possible?

I feel like I'm not being totally clear with my question...: do you believe we're capable of 'supernatural' feats through many years of meditation and training?

Yes I know, I'm insane. Maybe others are as well, however. 8)

Okay. You've got a closed mind. Did you even read it all?

EDIT: BTW you accidently put a question mark after your 'lol'. That doesn't belong there.

Lol?

^ See? Looks stupid.

You do realize that telekinetic power defies the rules of physics.

So no.

Hey, it's only scientific to say so.

I believe it's possible to break some mental boundaries, but not something radical like telekenesis. Things like cutting one's own arm off to save himself are what I'm getting at. Doing drastic things like that are probably the extent of mankind's mental capabilities.

According to Nostradmaus in the future .. i think it was the Year 3000+ our minds will be in harmony.

Oh well I been looking for a long time can't find it, but he said something close to thiss:
" Our minds will let us levitate ones physical body "
" We will be able to heal with water from the earth "
" Many will have a helaing touch " <-- Allready have people like this.
" And somethign about teleportation "

Yup the mind is capable of many things, but according to Nostradamus it won't be untill 3347 or somethign till we witness these events.

Wow lots of people didn't even seem to put much thought into the concept.
Gandalf all I've got to say to that is that scientists also at one point thought the earth was flat and at the center of the universe. :) Being a scientist doesn't make one always correct. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm not saying you're right.

Plus that's the kind of idea I'm talking about. The idea that we have far more mental/spiritual power than we realize. I currently believe we may 'evolve' or 'adapt' into this power. But hey these are my 'deep' thoughts and those are often totally out there and wrong.

I'm with you on this one black.. seems like it in the past few posts I've seen from you

Isn't it proven that we only use a small percent of our brain (no I'm not going to bother saying a number because I don't know it exactly and some wise ass will come trying to act all professor on me saying it's not that) , and look at what we are capable of already. Also look at the differences in brain capabilities in people, some peopel are total dimwits and then there are people who have the minds of 10 regular people. Now let's suppose that's a difference of a couple percent of brain usage (genius to mentally retarded), now compare the low percent we are at now to if we could use say 100% of our brain, we can't even begin to imagine.

Frankly I'm dissapointed by everyone's responses to this, especially Rom, saying it defies the rules of physics and such.

The "rules" of any science have been defied countless times in history. That's the beauty of science, it is ongoing and you always find new things. You can't just come up with a theory and leave it at that forever.

Man you hit the nail on the head when you said we use such a small percentage of our brains as it is. Look at what we're capable of now; and think what we will be capable of later...after...time? Or perhaps quickened through intense spirituality or meditation or training of some kind?

I suppose if you stretch the timeframe a bit and accept that anything is possible just not probable, something like that could work. Still though, it doesn't seem like anything amazing will happen for awhile. You won't see people having revelations and suddenly being able to use their entire brain and hovering around zapping people with their mind's power.

You hit the spot, but people with different mental capacities can become smarter, if I read 4 books in a month every month wouldn't that enhance my vocabulary, I'd have new knowledge, but this is like the concept of the show "Heroes" of course we are going to evolve and we are going to gain powers or something, it will happen gradually, people will start to discover little things and then may become spread out.

Also Black says who there is not people already like this, we have no idea, of course they wouldn't just go in public and say "WATCH ME FLY" there is people in this world with powers but they will never say it.

I'm inclined to believe in most of the abiliies they claim ninja's had. 99.95456456% of people in this world do not train and exercise theri brain's properly. It's a muscle that can be built up like any other muscle.

My penis is a muscle that can be built up like any other muscle. That doesn't mean I will ever be able to eat food with my penis, like I can with my stomach.

So that automatically means we can't further the power of our brains? C'mon Bake you don't think like that, do you?

I was pointing out that "it's a muscle that can be built up like any muscle" is a shitty rationale for a belief.

The brain is a very complex thing.
Us using such a small fraction of it, it is foolish for us to even say what we could and could not do should we be able to use 100% of it.
