Guerrilla aqua teen marketing campaign mistaken for terrorism by humorless, out of touch bureaucrats.

The two artists who were hired by Turner broadcasting to make these things live one floor above an old friend and former roommate of mine. They're being held in jail on $100,000 bail. That's right, a pair of starving artists, one hundred thousand dollar bail.

If I knew the background story it might mean more to me, but as I understand it now it's damn funny.

This stunt" went down in 8 or 9 other cities. None of them reacted.
ONLY Boson did, but blame the Government, or blame Bush , its the "cool" thing to do.

I dislike people who don't like Bush and don't even know why. That's called hopping the bandwagon. I supported Bush rather than Kerry, mostly for a reason to argue with all of the idiots that don't even know why they're talking shit on Bush.
But our govt does certainly do a hell of a lot of stupid ass things to warrant what I said above.

Hah I remember hearing about that on the radio at work. People in Boston must've been like "What the fu**?"

If you feel strongly about this and are in the area, or don't mind spending a buck or two on a short long-distance call, these guys would really appreciate it. The mayor is treating this like an offense against the city, when what the city has done here is offensive. And the more calls they get, the quicker these guys will be allowed to go home.
If the letter doesn't load:
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino: 617-635-4500
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick: 617-725-4005

Alex,
I'm speaking what I honestly think is going on.
You are over reacting because you know these artists personally. Yes they were misunderstood. Yes the law enforcers where over reacting and were foolish to do so but they do it because they're trained so. It what's our defense system is designed to do. I like to think of it like the common allergy is a big misunderstand of our immune system.
Things will be sorted out. These artists will get only the justice they deserved.
I truely believe so,
James

How am I overreacting? The video was not made by me, the letter was not written by me, and no I don't know these artists personally. Like I said, they are friends of one of my close friends, who forwarded me the email. All I'm doing is providing the information and contact numbers for people in a position of authority. Anyone who wants to voice their opinion to these people is welcome, whatever that opinion is - it's out of my hands.
It sounds to me like you're saying I should sit back and let someone else take care of it. Why? This country wasn't built on the principle of "sitting back and letting someone else do it." I'm not particularly worried about these guys being convicted. I want them to be able to go home.
I can forgive the police for overreacting, and given that nobody on the scene apparently was familiar with the show or the character, the response was appropriate. I'm still going to make fun of them for their ignorance. And the fact is that they continue to overreact even after their ignorance has been exposed. Now they're being irresponsible and unproductive. They're getting angry at Turner Broadcasting in order to protect themselves from the storm of ridicule and embarrassment that's headed their way, instead of graciously admitting it was just a misunderstanding. They've charged these two artists with a felony. It's a waste of time, a waste of my tax money, and an insult to justice.
That being said, I'm not asking for rallies or marches or boycotts. Just sharing information.

I hope I said no good reason. I'm posting here 'cause I'm bored and killing time. I don't think that's a good reason to do most things, but it's a reason.

2:30 into the video and I don't understand.
Nothing but a shitty reporter stuttering and "uhhhh ah uhhhhh ah"
All I hear is 'suspicious devices variety of suspicious devices"

If you click the "This Is A Video Response To ..." link below the flash player there's a vid that shows the guys unpacking and hanging them up. I thought it was kind of boring but there's not much else to explain. They're called "LED throwies" and I can see how someone who's very paranoid and has never seen Adult Swim or an Adult Swim commercial or the Adult Swim billboards that feature this character all over town, could mistake them for bombs.
The thing I can't see is how someone convinces themself they're not just clueless and paranoid in the face of millions of people who recognize the character and a major broadcasting corporation taking responsibility. No, it must be terrorists!

Good news - bail went down to $2,500 cash, and the guys just gave what is very possibly the best press conference ever.

+1, mister King County sheriff.
And apparently something very similar happened recently with MI:3 promotions in L.A.
