UK woman eats a pack of kitchen sponges daily!

So, yeah, there's this UK woman who eats 20 washing up sponges each day.
I thought it was about time for some weird news on SRF again
A 23-year-old lady in the UK likes to tuck into 20 washing up sponges every day, soaked in apple flavoured dishwashing liquid.
The habit has become an addiction and she now suffers from Pica (an OCD disorder that involves eating things with no nutritional value) although she has not yet sought treatment for it, Metro reported.
Her recipe for a tasty sponge involves soaking it overnight in apple flavoured fairy liquid, then removing the scouring pad. "Some people go out for a steak, I would rather go out for a sponge. It's a guilty pleasure. My friends takes the mick out of me, they say, "Are we going to have sponge and chips for tea?," she said.
"I am definitely addicted to it," she added.

I'm kind of sensitive to certain materials.
Dish sponges to me kind of feel like a very light version of somebody scraping their nails across a board. I don't even want to imagine eating it >_<

I heard about this (not sure where), I think it is quite common for people to do this. Few years ago, I heard of a woman eating the ashes of her dead boyfriend.
One of my cravings when I was pregnant was to chew on a sponge...

The real question here is: did you do it?
I just can't imagine eating a sponge. I'll have to go with poechalcho on that part.
Actually, I thought you'd get ill if you ate a sponge, not to mention 20 per day. But it turns out that you can survive just fine. Still a bit odd, though.

It's just soap stuff... I'm pretty sure they can't sell something like that if it's a health hazard... because kids.

Well, the soap you put into your dishwasher will kill you if you try to eat it, so I'm not so sure about that. But maybe it's different for the type of soap she uses.

Well, the soap you put into your dishwasher will kill you if you try to eat it, so I'm not so sure about that. But maybe it's different for the type of soap she uses.
Dishwasher soap isn't liquid though, is it? We always get these tablet things that dissolve in the water.
Though I guess there's plenty of options out there.

It says fairy liquid, which is a liquid, used for washing dishes.
