All I could think of while watching this was "THIS IS RUSSIA!!!!!".

Have any of you seen this before? It's not a new thing. The speaker at some point says that "over the past 10 years, the armor has become lighter".

At least the referee is remaining true to "Russian heritage"....All it takes is one slip-up when he moves in to break them up and they might have to change referees...You'd think he should be wearing armor too but no...

Anyhow...this is interesting in a crazy way...It is worth the watch....Lets hope someone doesn't mistakenly/unintentionally poke their weapon into the face mask of his opponent and get him right in the eyeball...blunt sword or not you get that in the eyeball it wont be pretty...

That's not really unique to swordfighting though :P
Any damage to the eye is gonna be f*cking terrible, whether it's a finger or a sword.

But perhaps for this reason stabbing has been banned? I didn't see them go for any stabbing moves anyway...

Yeah stabbing can get quite nasty, because there are gaps in the armor in a lot of places and thrusting swords were meant for that kind of stuff.

I assumed stabbing was banned for those obvious reasons that's why I said "mistakenly/unintentionally"...

Well the swords are blunt. And if you had a hollow plastic sword it would be pretty pointless because it has so little weight that you really don't need much technique, not that they are displaying any either.

This is like boxing, not really fighting and not really sword fighting. The first thing I would do in an "unbreachable defense" type of scenario is swing the sword full force down and break bones with force.
