SRF Alternatives

Post by Love »

I think is time for me to start looking for a new forum and with that in mind share where else you have found a decent gaming community that doesn't limit itself to just gaming. My preference on said community would be small-medium size population.

With the decline in membership of srf and lack of potential to grow, discussing this makes sense. Been meaning to do so for a while now.

And here I though the forums actually livened up a little bit lately...

Mhh, my alternative is generally reddit, though it's not exactly a forum. It's like every topic has it's own subforum :/. It's a nice place if you've found the right subreddits, but it's very impersonal.

I haven't found a place as good as SRF. This place is special. It's not easy to create a place that attracts as many different faces as we have over here and to keep it all neat and tidy at the same time. Most forums I've seen either have childish communities or nazi mods. SRF has this special mix of decent members and mods that are as much members as they are authorities.

As Poehalco said, Reddit is a good alternative if you find the right subreddits. SRF is the only forum I have been able to stick with, it has the right amount of users and when it is active it has interesting viewpoints.

Also we had characters like IceAlaya ( Spelling?) who provided an interesting twist to things

MMO-Champion is my other gaming forum/website of choice

Also Reddit like the others have said

I like the small community here. It's much easier to keep track of a smaller number of people and get closer to them than it is a giant forum where it's pretty rare to run across the same people unless your interests match up perfectly.

I created a subreddit in which we can all go to if we want to communicate with each other

http://www.reddit.com/r/silkroadforums/

nothing really there as I created it in 2 minutes

glorytogaben (Reddit) - Gaigemasta (SRF)

I really don't recommend using your regular reddit username unless you want us all to know.

A good SRF alternative for me is a life offline....I'm skeptical about finding anything on another forum that is greatly different than the topics, attitudes, behaviors, discussions that isn't/wasn't already here...I know my skepticism is unfounded seeing that there are so many forums out there but for right now, SRF is suitable...

SRF and Reddit are the only forums I go to, been going to reddit whenever I have nothing to do. As poehalcho has said, it's very impersonal. The only place I've ever found an identity online is here.

I don't really use Reddit. I used http://www.ouyaforum.com for quite a while and was very active there, but the community just wasn't the same.

Nothing's really like SRF.
Dubious ・ Lvl 101 ・ STR Archer ・ jSRO-R ・ active
PillowFight ・ Lvl 69 ・ STR Archer ・ jSRO-R ・ inactive
Aggrobatic ・ Lvl 101 ・ Warrior / Cleric ・ jSRO-R ・ inactive

I Blame the bots themselves. There's nothing wrong with cleaning up and none of it had to happen if they didn't bot in the first place. If they didn't maybe we'd all even still be playing the bloody game.

If by "cleaning up" you mean intentionally going on a witch hunt against active users, turning this forum into a shell of what it used to be activity and participation wise, and leading us to this point now, all because they chose to play the game differently, then sure, I guess cleaning up wasn't too bad.

Everyone agreed botting ruined the game, yet some botted anyway. It's plain hypocrisy.
It was choice they made, which they knew would obviously be frowned upon and could have consequences. There was no witchhunt against active users, there was a hunt against people that ruined it for the rest.
Nobody would've expected so many people on the forum to actually do it. Plenty of the people that reported bots ended up eventually getting banned for the same offense themselves.

The hunt didn't have to happen if the people didn't bot.
And the people didn't have to bot under any circumstance.

except not everyone did, so hypocrisy wasn't the problem. Just a stupid witch hunt. I also don't think player bots ruined the game but gold bots. It's like the war on drugs. Hate all drugs with no common sense.

No, it definitely was a witch hunt. It would've made sense if this forum was an official forum for SRO and Joymax, but it's a separate community, people came here because we shared a same interest, SRO.
The active users that were banned, afaik, did not actively promote using bots on the forums. Most of them were only active on OTL anyways.
No matter how you look at it, it went down as a witch hunt, and this is what's left. I wish I could see the activity on this board before and after EB.

It was a silly thing to do anyways because people could simply create a new account, I did.

if it's any consolation this forum would probably still be mostly dead by now anyway. there was a lot of people that weren't banned and they all moved on from here, why wouldn't a high ratio of the banned botters move on as well? it would've been noticeable years ago but that's likely it.

is everyone that botted actually unbanned? should even though i doubt anyone that hasn't come back under a different name would just because they got unbanned years and years later.
