What Gaming Did To Me
What Gaming Did To Me
Tonight, I had an epiphany.
As a child, I was incredibly passionate. To a flaw, perhaps, as this often times translated into rage.
But then, around the age of 13-14, I just stopped being angry. Something changed inside of me. I don't know how or why, but I was able to turn off the rage.
Flash forward to now, 7-8 years later. And I've done a complete 180. I have little to no passion for anything in my life. Not that I don't enjoy certain things, but I just don't have the same "drive" that I used to.
For the longest time, I wasn't sure what was wrong with me. Why I was unable to find something to be passionate about, either professionally, emotionally, or spiritually.
Tonight it hit me.
When I turned off my rage, I turned off my passion. At the very same time I did this, I started gaming. Which turned into a "medication" for my passion. The problem with that is, you cannot medicate just the bad or good parts of yourself. You medicate everything. And because of that, I felt no desire to be passionate about real life.
Time to unleash the rage and subdue my world.

I think a majority of users share the same situation, I know I do, sorta, with one minor slight difference to the cause of my "rage", but I'm not willing to share. Cautious and all that junk. Well that and Vexx has a crush on me.

Re: What Gaming Did To Me
So what you're saying is that gaming reduced/eliminated your rage and indirectly eliminated your passion for shit?

Re: What Gaming Did To Me
Being immersed too much in any one thing can cause a lack of passion/interest for anything else.....find some form of balance would be my suggestion.....

Pretty much, yeah.
The weird thing is, growing up I was a perfectionist. Even in little areas, like keeping my room clean. My room was always spotless. But somehow, I channeled my perfectionist mentality into SRO. And by doing so, lost any interest in being a perfectionist IRL.
Weird, I know.

Believe me, I know.
And I would, if it were legal. But atm, ain't worth risking it.

Based on this I don't think you've really lost your passion...It's just been re-directed towards a game(s)....Once you start trying to incorporate balance in your lifestyle you'll find yourself being able to demonstrate passion elsewhere....Like I stated before you're probably doing too much of one thing..being immersed too much in it....

Is it really that big of a risk where you are?

More like taking the relaxing way out. I've never seen anyone get angry or be hostile while high. Essentially everything you do is more fun and more enjoyable, and it's all because of a funny smelling little weed growing from the earth. Even typing this post is considerably more enjoyable right now.

Seems like you're on could 9 right now.....anywho that's a temporary mood supported by the drug...Would be a whole lot better if that mood is sustained without it...

I would agree with you if it were something pharmaceutical or man-made that was the cause of this. Fortunately this comes from the good old earth and is as natural as you can get

I disagree with that, I think the mood can be sustained. Who I am today is way different from who I was before I started smoking. I'll smoke once a day and it will allow me to get rid of the stress and let me look at things through clear eyes. I'm almost always happy now (even when I'm not high) because I have a "healthy" stress reliever. Then again its just not for everyone. I'd say Budo hit the nail on the head in an earlier post, you just gotta redirect the passion from dominating a virtual world to dominating the real world.

Don't blame video games for your laziness.

@Curve.+ Adventus:
Not saying you can't sustain a easy going mellow mood without weed...Just saying it would be better to without it... Like some Buddhist monks (or regular joe) have attained... Relying on a substance (natural or not) to make you feel better can cause dependency issues and or health problems later on....

I disagree. There is no relying on weed at all. It's simply the stress relieving avenue I prefer and would suggest everyone partake in.

Re: What Gaming Did To Me
As someone who basically smoked weed every other day of my junior year...I'd say don't bother with it. It completely kills all motivation for me, and basically it got to the point where all we would talk about is planning for the next time to get high, and when we were high the other times we got high...And soon being sober just sucks cause it feels like theres nothing to do and you have no personality...
Basically don't get too into it, learn an instrument or something instead.
Also working out the day after getting toast feels awesome, if you haven't tried.

If we weren't supposed to smoke weed we wouldn't have an Endocannabinoid system.

Just had to highlight that point.
Weed isnt for everyone, some people are easily addicted to things. I know I'm one of those people and I dont hide the fact that I am addicted to weed. If you can find a legal avenue to relieve stress and bring happiness to your life do that over anything illegal. Some stuff just isnt worth the stress of jail/probation.
2 easiest ways to derail a thread, 2nd amendment and weed.
