WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — An argument over texting in a Florida movie theatre Monday triggered a retired Tampa police captain to fatally shoot a man sitting in front of him, as about 25 horrified moviegoers looked on, sheriff’s officials said.

One's right to carry a firearm in the USA.

My first response was "lol
My second thought, I really dont wanna me or my family to be shot by some random braindead "vigilante", esp. since I live in an area with a lot of ex military people...

This guy should get the worst sentence possible (death/life) so others think twice before bring guns into a fistfight (verbal fight in this instance).
Unfortunately i can see gun nuts making him some kind of martyr and more guns flying off the shelves :palm:

We're all susceptible to being pushed to the edge and acting irrationally....A simple (or annoying) cell use argument probably escalated into name calling and probably finger pointing then maybe into shoving and or yelling and someone lost their cool...

Which is why I laugh at the idea that most people who own guns are rather responsible individuals....responsible yes but fallible like any other human being....Not every person out there has good control over their emotions...adding a gun to the mix can turn into what we have here....

i Farking hate guns lover

its funny how i can walk in the street at 4 am and I don't have to carry a gun to feel safe.

y'all betacowboys are making me sick srsly.

if i was a criminal and i was living in a country where people were allowed to carry a gun i'd probably have more chance to shot the guy im robbing or whatever since he might shoot me.

violence bring violence, you can't stop violence by applying more violence against it.

Just make wearing firearms illegal. End of story. And also, make the punishment for wearing firearms at least 10 years in prison.
Sounds harsh? Maybe, but it'll teach people not to wear firearms.

On a bit more serious note, though, I do realize that it isn't as simple as that, but it's my honest opinion that it should be made illegal.

When there's a bombing,
We blame the bomber.
When there's a drunk-driving accident
We blame the driver
And when there's a shooting,
We blame the gun?

Why not blame both? ^
Well, It's easier to kill somebody with a gun, You Just point your gun.. and pull the trigger!

No one in their right mind is truly blaming the gun...I'm sure you know its the complete ease of use and miss-use of it by fallible people that's the real danger....Some people shouldn't be allowed to own one...Its like giving a monkey a loaded gun....We rely on a system to make sure the right people can own one but that system is questionable.....

It's also pretty easy to stab someone with a knife or run them over with a car or hit someone in the head with a baseball bat.

Just because the tool is easy to use doesn't mean you should bypass putting the blame on the individual. Had this guy had a knife on him, he probably would have stabbed the guy. It was the individual who was fucked up enough to freak out over a text in a movie theater, not the gun that egged him on enough to shoot the guy.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people with guns.

No. If he had a knife the outcome would have been the same. Should we ban all knives? How am I going to cut my incredibly juicy steak now with all knives banned?

You can't really be comparing the ease of use of a gun to a knife....You must know that a gun is far more efficient...and more prone to inflicting accidental injury....In this case a knife could have done the same thing but not too many shootings where at knife range (point blank)....

Can't stab someone at the speed of a bullet either or without posturing yourself in a stabbing pose and telegraphing your intent giving the victim some chance of a reaction time....

I'd rather take my chance with a knife wielding maniac than a gun wielding one...so no don't ban knives....but remove the easy and efficient means of killing from the hands of questionable people...

If everyone in the theater had a gun they wouldn't be scared. I think we should make carrying a gun at all times a federal law. Mothers, fathers, children, the elderly. I think everyone has the right to feel safe.

So someone was killed in the theater, that place is a hazard, we should petition to have it shut down.

Nono, you got it all wrong. It's the directors that made such films that encourage such actions. Just like music and video games! Oh wait that doesn't actually happen with movies.

Both wrong, cellphone killed him.

So we have a bomb, car, and gun.

2 of those things are meant to do harm.
Of those 2 things, one is illegal, and the other is not illegal.

They don't save lives either! Seriously, It's Just a anti-gun-control slogan!
Actually, Guns do kill people... and they kill animals too.
Well, a gun by itself cannot kill, but with a little help of the people who own them
and a bullet from the gun. Well, you see... a bullet is what punctures the body, not your own fingers.
Yes.. he's a freak But... you're forgetting he used to be a cop.

people guns when they go to war? Why not just send the people?"
That's Just awesome!

They save lives, you just won't hear about it in the sensationalized news where gun killings are the hot topic to talk about for ratings.

That depends on how you define "save lives"

I'd rather the bad guy get killed than a decent person.

If shoot a bad guy and save someones life, I saved them.

If I shoot a good guy for fun, the gun did it.

Yup guns=knives, how could we forget. Also guns=pencils, and oranges, and paper. They are all the same thing right huehuehue
