Windows 8 is approaching its one-year birthday, and while that usually means a new version is in the works for most products, Microsoft usually puts a few years in between versions to keep things steady. However, the company may be speeding things up, as, according to Geek.com, it’s rumored that Windows 9 is planned for release sometime next year.

According to an anonymous source who goes by WZOR (and who has been behind numerous Microsoft leaks in the past), Windows 9 will see the light of day in 2014. No other details were provided, other than the claim that Aero would be making a comeback in Windows 9 after disappearing in Windows 8, since it was a hot feature that many avid Windows users missed.

Details on Windows 10 were also provided, with claims that the future operating system will be a “cloud OS,” meaning that all of the processing and computing would be done on Microsoft’s servers, and be streamed to your computer, completely eliminating the need for a powerful rig and only requiring the basic bits to run peripherals and such. Windows 10 would essentially just be a new cloud service for Microsoft, on top of Office 365 and the new Xbox Cloud on Xbox One, pushing the company further into the cloud ecosystem.

Of course, we would like to remind you to take these rumors with a grain of salt, as WZOR says he received the information from a third party, which means the info could’ve easily gotten misinterpreted on the way, similar to a game of telephone that you used to play in grade school. The technology for a full cloud OS is certainly there, but it definitely needs a bit of work before Microsoft can make it a mainstream product. Here’s hoping that the company can pull it off, and by then local storage may be a thing of the past.

Until then, we’re still waiting for Windows 8.1′s release in October, so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

And so the spiral of windows continues as normal.

They're in way over their heads if they think they can already think about fully functional cloud OS'... but at least w9 sounds like it's turning out normal.
Half the world doesn't even have internet yet, let alone good internet. w10 sounds like a lot of fun with my (realistically) 700KBps download speed :X

no matter how farked up the new version can be, the worst that could happen to microsoft is that some users continue using their old version, google needs to enter this goddamn competition!

W10 wouldn't be too bad with my connection I suppose, but I don't like cloud stuff.

So far it looks like they are following their good-bad pattern.

Ubuntu and other Linux distros are slowly but surely catching up, according to the internet.

We need a totally new operating system from a totally new developer...I want Google to enter the market...It's not right to have only one main OS forcing us all to comply with whatever crap they roll out...(Mac OS and all flavors of Linux aren't that popular in comparison)

There is already a Chrome os... it's bad.
Rather, linux needs to get their shit together and spot the hole in the market that has been opened. They are the ones the ones that have the thing closest to what the general user wants :/

Chrome OS is designed for web stuff mainly, and based on linux.
if they start making another one from scratch, to be for any goddamn kind of users and they create enough hype about it, they will totally get a huge chunk of the desktop OS market.

or....just make it so simple like w95 or wxp, that it is literally non existant and acts as an aid to operate whatever we install on our system. an os which is essentially nothing untill you create a working environment for it. no preset crap, no nothing! just a personal start up, set your homescreen up, create your taskbar icons, internet, photoshop, spotify etc and allow it to become as minimal or massively full as you like. with some cool effect for the general ui ofcourse, i dont want a blank canvas. just an os that adapts to me!
