They certainly do seem quite happy to pull out the gun and shoot any chance they get. As if that dog posed a threat to their lives. They knew the situation was it was just trying to protect its owner, it was even hesitant to attack at first. Even stopped to sniff the ground, it probably only attacked after all because they were so damn scared and hostile towards it. And like all those other shots were necessary? Bet they would of done the same thing to a poodle.

I saw this earlier and didn't click and I wish I didn't here -.-. I read not to long ago about a cop shooting stray kittens in front of kids as well, i'm not sure if that was actually here or not >.>.

A. I fcking hate those f4ggots who are recording everything the police is doing. I see them here in Holland as well and I always have to resist the urge to punch them right in their fcking face. It is annoying as fck when someone is standing in front of you with a camera and is recording everything you do when there is no reason at all to record it. He was annoying the police officers on purpose and wanted to look cool in front of the people standing there. He made this happen, he shouldn't have acted like a 15-year old douchebag. Now don't get me wrong, I am thankful to God we don't have those messed up ''police officers'' you have in the U.S. over here, but this douchebag was asking for it. I'm sorry, call me whatever you want but I am just going to drop my opinion. I'm with the cops side.
This guy came out from nowhere, from somewhere, with his car and dog. He had NOTHING to do. He wasn't even walking by, he was on his freaking car. He just stopped, hop down with his dog, and started to douchbaggery the situation like "I gon' film these n*ggas" like he had the right to do. Even if he had it, he would become a suspect for just moron-in around. He was interfering with the police job, imo.

Then, okay, a dog trying to defend his owner. We know dogs are loyal and shit. Don't get me wrong, I love animals and this is really sad. It's true, the police shouldn't shot, but hey, they are animals, and that dog was going to attack just to defend his owner, just like he probably teach him. To avoid further attacks, plus the (assuming) low professionalism from this cop, he reacted to his own defense with the weapon he ALWAYS carries.

At the end, the guy who just got in the scene is the culprit. He didn't belong there, he came at the wrong moment, he tried to overcome the police and even take evidence...

Cant agree... We've all seen countless occasions where the police established a perimeter around their operations with people heckling them as they work and as long as those people didn't cross the police tape (or try to pass the officer posted at the perimeter) they were able to do their jobs.... If that many cop cars are on the scene and a civilian can easily encroach on their operation its all their fault for not containing the scene...

Another dumb reason to be on the side of the cops is if you notice just behind the dog before it attacked, in a yard are women and children...had the dog jumped higher when it attacked the cop could have missed fired and hit those women and children in their back yard...The first question that would be asked of them is why they didn't contained the scene..

Alright, blame the police for not putting any perimeter. Let the mothers and their kids join the scene as well as this douchbag, to worsen the situation. They all die, and who's the culprit? I dont see what the issue here was. The dog was attacking, they initially hesitated to shoot the dog, but once the dog lunged at the police officer for the second time and put his safety at risk he simply defended himself with the tools he had. Sure, the dog was just "protecting his owner" but a police officer can't let themselves be severely hurt just the save the life of the dog. At what point is it acceptable to defend yourself? Once it's already got one of the officers by the arm and has already caused damage? Do you expect him to simply let it bite him? If you kick the dog it will just make it more enraged, a gun is a simply way to ensure it wont hurt the officer. It's sad, don't get me wrong (I had to turn away as soon as I saw them shooting and I closed the video afterwards, its not something I wanted to see) but in my eyes I don't see anything inherently wrong with their decision.

I know how loyal a dog can be and I know what they will do to protect their owners (my 50kg german Shepard/Rottwheiler showed me first hand when it attacked our neighbour). If he didn't defend himself there was an incredibly high risk that the police officer would of been severely hurt.

I think they couldve uncuffed the owner and have him restrain the dog .... Thats easy for me to say sitting here but formulating such a response on the spot and is not necessarily obvious, one of those things you gain with experience.

Same with some celebrities saying they don't want to be a role model when they do some stupid ass shit. Being and getting famous has different forms, every cop has made the decision themselves to become one and thus have to deal with everything that is expected from them by the society. It's not like they joined the law enforcement at age 5 when there is only good and evil and the police is considered to be thoroughly good.

If you watch the video again, you will see the dog isn't simply "trying to get to it's owner". Around 3:16, the dog approaches the police officers and they choose not to shoot it. They back off and so does the dog. It hasn't attacked and, thus, not approaching a serious threat. But at 3:21 the dog lunges at the police officer and that is when he shoots. The dog showed its intentions to attack and while it was only "defending it's owner", the police officers were simply defending themselves.

Have you ever seen a dog attack someone? I've owned 2 pure bred rottweilers and a german shepard/rottweiler (based on appearance i dare say it's a pure bred rottweiler in this video). This breed of dog is incredibly powerful and their bite can cause serious damage. It wouldn't be safe to try and pin down the dog with sheer force and doing so would put them at risk. Once it leaped forward at them they had to make an immediate decision to protect their fellow officer from attack.

Yeah I don't think uncuffing the man was realistically plausible. They whole event unfolded in about 8 seconds and during the entire incident their focus was on watching the dogs actions. As soon as the dog lept they didn't really have time to uncuff the man because the officer was already in imminent danger. It's easy to play armchair police officer and speculate about what they should have done, but when you're in that kind of scenario your first instinct if self defense.

This, he wasn't really interfering with their work and was still quite a distance away. It's unfortunate the officer didn't have a taser in his hand instead. I guess it was kind of a reflex to shoot it. And now he's gonna get so much hate for killing a dog. I don't think there should be so much freaking out over a dog (I had a dog once and he was poisoned by someone and had to be put down, then again I'm not so much of a dog person). But I feel bad for the owner though, it was painful to watch the vid.

I don't see there being any right way to deal with this case though.
