Well, as smartphones become stronger and stronger, they seem to get hotter and hotter as well.
So put simple: To make sure you can still hold the phone in your hand after having played a high-quality game for an hour.

Move to canada...problem solved.... Seriously tho, who use their phone in such an intensive manner where it would start to overheat?...Most people I know just text, facebook, check e-mails and a little bit of gaming.....this shouldn't overheat your phone..

Why you all assume this is for games? Some phones get extremely hot under normal load. I've had one time where my phone shut off because it got too hot. When your screen is on using GPS etc etc temps can rise to 110+ degrees F

They get hot with wifi usage too. I've used mine for as a wifi hot spot before and it gets hot pretty quick.

I see water cooling as a bit much tho, I mean why not a vent with a tiny fan? lol

Fans make noise. If they can use effectively use watercooling without a pump it would not make a peep.

I'd imagine this would add a bit of weight to the phone though

I don't think a tiny fan would make much noise, especially if its not going super fast. Little air flow is better than none tho.

What about when you have it in your pocket then? Your body / clothes could easily block the fan,
which I doubt would be good for the little fella?

Put the vents on the side like on new laptops, it should be fine unless you have really narrow pockets.

It wouldn't be in use and getting hot in your pocket though.

My phones temperature stays around 77-80 degrees when it's not in use. It's at 77 right now after about an hour of not being used.

There have been times where I have it in my pocket and I can feel it getting warmer and warmer every few minutes. I usually just restart it when that happens.

It's not necessarily the fact that your phone gets hot. If water cooling can be more efficient than traditional cooling while maintaining a size comparable to traditional cooling, that COULD mean more room for other things or smaller/thinner phones.

An advancement in one area often leads to advancements in other areas because they are reliant on each other, especially when you consider how small phones are.

How does this traditional cooling work?

Passive cooling in the form of thermal diffusion..in other words slabs of metal that run along the motherboard, the heat spreads out across the metal and when it spreads out it moves a higher temperature originating from one point into smaller temperatures spread out over a larger area.

Same principle as a heat sink on a CPU, minus the fan.

Why not "Create" a cooler?
Well, maybe that would help?
