Mammoth discovery?
Jurassic Park takes a step closer to reality as Russian scientists find 'blood' in woolly mammoth. The Jurasssic Park dream of cloning long-dead animals from their genetic remains may have taken a step closer to reality, as scientists claim to have found mammoth blood.
The purported discovery came inside the carcass of a female mammoth, which died 10,000 to 15,000 years ago.
Semyon Grigoryev, the head of the expedition, told The Siberian Times the discovery of blood and muscle tissue was "the most astonishing case in my entire life," and could be a boost to researchers who dream of cloning the animal.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/scien ... 37871.htmlThis is kick-ass
I hope they make some big advances with this :o
It would be cool if they could clone it and create an elephant/mammoth hybrid.

It would be interesting to see if they can do something with the blood they extracted.

Yeah, let's revive them and then poach them till they're extinct again.

Let's hope they never find any! ^ lulz
Seriously, resurrect an "ice age species" back from extinction... It could cause much more pain than happiness for everyone that is involved.

If it can cause pain it can cause happiness.
Everything changes, animals going extinct or coming back to life, not much of a big deal except to the feelings we have towards that species, and some impact on the ecosystem which will adapt either way.
Bring back Woolly Mammoths and reintroduce them to Alaska~
lol Mammoth steak sounds cool.

sadly it's pretty much impossible to bring back dinosaurs, the DNA has already broken down.

Yea, unfortunately, but there's still reverse engineering, eventually.

Hey, if we can find another viable carcass...
A dinosaur that died in an acid pool or blood in a mosquito in a piece of resin... anything that could've preserved it would be enough...

Happiness for whom? Human> dollar? Well, reintroduce them to Alaska.. It might work out
But still.. It would be difficult for the woolly mammoth to adapt to modern day.
Seriously, It would be hard on the animal.

How do you know it wouldn't it? And why would it only cause pain? Its an animal, not a monster, or piece of software only compatible with Earth 10.000bce or earlier.
But yea, they probably wouldn't put them in the wild if they managed to make some.

The atoms that make up the DNA have decayed to the point where it is not DNA anymore. I think it was even in the most preserved state it can only last 3 million years or so.

Are elephants "happy" at the Zoo? Well, Woolly Mammoth are Just too big
In practical terms, they would be disastrous to the environment.. They are not "fish" who are stuck in the water.

I don't think we can clone it yet anyway.
It seems a bit more complex than a sheep. We don't know how to clone humans yet either and to begin with I'm not even sure we can clone it if a normal elephant isn't compatible...
