Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
Rebellion is usually from below, terrorism is from below and above. By that I mean that rebellion is usually done by civilians and from the same country the rebellion happens in. Terrorism can be done by the authority on civilians or by some radicalists. In other words, rebellion targets authority, terrorism doesn't or targets people based on other criteria.

The difference is the side you're on.

I believe that would be a guerilla.

I wouldn't consider guerillas terrorists, but I guess it depends on the case.

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
The terms are not mutually exclusive. The meanings for each is pretty straight forward. A terrorist is someone that cause terror, be it against a group of ppl, nastion, etc. A is rebel is some who rebels from authority. It's not hard to be labeled with either when you're killing ppl or car bombing..

Rebels target the authority/regime, terrorists attack innocents to scare the masses
Guerrillas is a military tactic, not sure what it has to do with terrorism/rebels other than the they use it a lot

Yeah, it's very much dependent on whom chooses the words.
America is protecting the world from terrorism.
America is murdering anyone that doesn't agree with its views.

This thread and especially this topic reminds me of those lame Truth cigarette commercials that distort fact(s) to fit their own agenda.

Well that's exactly what it is; a manipulation and distorting of words. If you can find a way to change words into something nasty, people will react accordingly. Make something normal sound evil, people will see it as evil. Make something evil sound heroic, people will turn a blind eye to an evil act and see it as a necessary evil for the greater good.

The problem is not the one "who manipulates" but the one who "allows themselves" to be manipulated again and again.[Orphen] wrote:Well that's exactly what it is; a manipulation and distorting of words

That doesn't make the manipulator any less of a problem.

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
You are right. However.. the trick is to "recognize it" and when you recognize that you have been "manipulated"Sanktum wrote:That doesn't make the manipulator any less of a problem.
distance yourself from the manipulator. Well, the "Manipulator" is the leader of a terrorist group.
Isn't that right?

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
This would be correct if it was just one on one. Unfortunately we live in a world where the manipulators already have the power over the majority. When you control all the information a person gets, it's not hard at all to manipulate them. NK for example(the whole 9 yards) , also the U.S. has manipulated it's ppl into believing that a two party systems is the only way, and democracy isn't majority rule...

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
Actually, i think terrorist is someone who just uses terrorism as a tactic, so a rebel can be a terrorist if he/she goes around blowing inoocent people up, but that doesnt mean that every rebel uses terrorism, and that every terrorist is a rebel

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
The delineation between the two is highly blurred when you view the methods employed by both to realize their goals.....with one exception I can think of....and that is rebels can have a peaceful rebellion (for example Mahatma Gandhi)...something unheard of with terrorists....

Re: Difference between Terrorism and Rebellion?
Welcome to place where I came from where both are indistinguishable, No.
Rebellion is kinda like a coup, where they try to overthrow a government or regime. This has an extensive population or uneducated military force with ample supply enough to break enemy resistance. This however is less bloody and more predictable than the later. (Less bloody? I know, yes, Syria, Libya, and the Egypt Rebellion was bloody... but it could be worse)
Terrorism is a different bunch of oranges, they're like Anonymous where they do things for the lulz and try to make creepy assfucked videos of kidnapping just to fund their arms race. Not to mention they're soo tiny in size that finding them would be a hustle. I might say the foundations of a Rebellion is from a Terrorist group which just happen to have convinced/brainwashed a large amount of population. Furthermore Terrorist are more bloodier and is even more spontaneous than a Rebellion group.
How about private armies? wouldn't you like ask what's the difference about it too?
