"Traditional Marriage" is typically based on biblical marriage. What most people fail to realize is that during biblical times, it was fairly common for a man to have multiple wives. Therefore, by supporting "traditional marriage" they are indirectly supporting polygamy

Oddly enough the same argument was used to prevent interracial marriage.

I support all the pseudo-activists that seem to pop up when these social networking trends come to light.

But but, the slippery slope into polygamy (and beastiality, i'm guessing) is their argument against gay marriage

Pretty much, yeah.
I'm in an interesting situation since, most of my life long friends happen to also be Christians. So I find it highly amusing whenever I hear them spout off stupid reasons for things they do/believe in.
Makes me chuckle.

Polygamy are Just "selfish and horrible to do to your partner(s)" They completely reduce the dignity of the person.
But I say.. I don't care what other people do, as long as everyone involved is okay with it!

Maybe the partner doesn't mind.

Religion is just the brain child of cultural beliefs...when our cultural belief/perception changes religion is pressed to follow along.....And it eventually (albeit reluctantly at first) does.... Most of them underwent some "amending" between 100 years ago and now... Examples being: having black people within its congregation or having female preacher/pastors making it OK to marry gay people...
Some people see religion as something separate from culture...Something that is pure and unaffected (or shouldn't be affected) by the shiftiness and shortcomings of cultural practices. I think that's a misguided view since religion and all its teachings/stories did not exist before humans..Any ideology formed/created within the minds of men can be scrutinized/altered/re-purposed by man as well..

Nothing bad about either of these two relationship types or any other variation as long as its what everyone involved wants...

when it comes to this debate i always think to myself...
why the **** do people care?!?!?!
legalizing gay marriage does not mean that everyone will have to convert to being gay or risk death! i am not gay (surprising i know... but everyone has seen how hot my gf is so... whatever

) but i dont care what anyone else does unless it involves me.
lets just say i didnt like the idea of gay marriage.
i wouldnt want them to marry in a church
i wouldnt want them to be classed as a "family"
uh... so what? i can think what I like and they can think what they like. It doesnt change anything at the end of the day, gays that get offended by people that say they dont want to "class them as a family" need to think "so what!".
Christians believe God is the only deity and Muslims think Allah is the only deity but no one argues about that!.. oh wait.

^I wouldn't care if gays got married in a church. I'm not planning to get married in a church either.

Churches don't want to marry gays because by doing so, they'd be forced to violate their own beliefs.

So let the churches decide, if resturaunts can reserve the right to not serve whom ever they want I'm sure churches can do the same. All it is, is the religious right tryin to force a country to follow religious guidelines. There isn't a single non religion based argument against gay marriage aside from the "it'll be so hard to explain this too my kid" bullshit.
If we would have successfully kept church and state seperate this wouldn't even be an argument.

The Church shouldn't even have a say in this. It wasn't them who invented the concept of marriage; no group, religious or otherwise, can put a copyright on it. The mentality alone that rational, open-minded people have to address or include religion in this discussion is already absurd. Marriage documents are made official by the government, not the rabbi, the priest, the pastor, or the imam.
It just so happens that there's too many people who get married in churches because they happen to be Christian but that doesn't mean that it is up to them to decide whether a marriage should be legal. They can view it however they want: they can see it as an abomination or even ban gay people from their groups -- that is their right. What they cannot do is decide whether or not gay people should have the right to benefit from the merits of marriage (eg. taxes). The decision on whether or not two individuals should have the right to get married belongs solely to the two people who wish to be married. They want to be together for life and share their assets with one another. That is their life and their property.
FYI: I'm arguing for the right to be married, in general. Not the right to be married in a church. If they want to deny homosexuals their blessing to be married under their religion's name, fine. But they can't ban them from being married elsewhere.

yeah and anyone that goes to a church should not eat any meat that comes from a pig, no tattoos or piercings, no one that has had a second marriage, anyone that works on the Sunday, female teachers and eat any seafood that doesn't have fins.
Anyone that is not a virgin nor married should be removed from the church, Oh and any women that speak in church should also be forced out of the church.
oh and women were created FOR man. Women are men's slaves.
but hey, dont shoot the messenger!
