of shooter players,” says Tripwire...

Earlier this month I visited Killing Floor and Red Orchestra 2 creator Tripwire Interactive to play Rising Storm, the upcoming standalone expansion to RO2 (look for a preview on Monday). After the demo, Tripwire President John Gibson and I got talking about the state of first-person shooters, and Gibson laid out a detailed criticism about the way Call of Duty “takes individual skill out of the equation.” Gibson also expressed frustration over how difficult it had been trying to design a mode for Red Orchestra 2 that appealed to Call of Duty players.

John Gibson, President: I think that single-player shooters are getting better. I think they’re finally coming out from under the shadow of the Hollywood movie, overblown “I’m on a rail” linear shooter. I’m talking about Call of Duty-style shooters. In the late ‘90s, you had the original Deus Ex, which was an RPG-shooter. And those kind of games almost took an eight year hiatus. And I’m so excited to see them coming back with interesting gameplay. Like the Fallout games, even though their shooting mechanics could really use some improvement, just mixing a really cool story, but not a linear story, one that you create yourself. The melding of RPG elements and shooter elements has been great. I’ve seen this reflected in a lot of the reviews, it’s like, “Okay guys, we’re tired of this on-rails experience.”

lol I thought it was gonna be about how COD makes most kids pseudo experts on guns.. So I have to listen to them quote guns off of video games, like there is only 1 type of 9mm or only one brand and caliber of 1911...

Anyways, I've kinda got burned out on COD, but I wouldn't mind a fallout type game, but with the COD aiming mechanism.

It's good that I have never played CoD online. The people on many CS1.6 servers weren't much better either, but at some point I only played KZ where people weren't so immature, so it wasn't so bad, but I got banned for 'hacking' from the only active KZ server here atm, while I clearly wasn't hacking. And not playing any online shooter atm so yeah, not really that familiar with that kind of stuff.

Any parent or person who claims that Call of Duty is making children violent, shouldl ook at themselfes. Any normal thinking person with a proper upbringing can make the difference between a video game and reality. And if you can not make that difference, then you were a threat to society in the first place.

well if some peoples upbringing are by bad parents who sit there children in front of call of duty games, they wont know the difference. in just the last few years we have seen plenty of people telling courts how they re enacted what they did on video games using it as a sandbox practice.

Exactly. Everybody blames the video games. They're not to blame, retarded people who can't draw a line between real life and video games are to blame.

Anybody could do something stupid and claim it was caused by a video games.
Its an easy way out, like how criminals commonly try to pleas insanity but it rarely works in the real world as in movies. Those who claim they re-enacted video games still end up in jail, the court system doesn't give a shit where you saw it, its the media that blows it out of proportion.

First rule of trolling: Never admit to it and/or be deemed a troller. The best trolls are the sneaky ones.

If a bad parent relies on something(something not even meant for kids)how can that something be blamed? By that logic the world should have nothing bad in it at all, if its possible to give violent thoughts or ideas, it shouldn't' exist. A bad upbringing isn't an excuse either, everyone has problems.

I think logically if violent games/movies/books were actually responsible for making people do violent shit then wouldn't statistically there be a lot more of it going on. I mean how many people spend time watching/playing shit like that all the time?

No! No! No! This is all wrong... The first rule of SRF is, "do not double post". Tasdik wrote that the first rule of trolling was never to admit to trolling. So either you're trolling about trolling, or you're using the excuse of trolling to get out of looking stupid. Either way, usually one of the first rules of grammar that we learn is to always capitalize the first letter of a sentence... Try it.

A tip on trolling... Don't do it.

i think its a bit harsh to say the people that think games has increased violence or crime are stupid. There is no way of telling if it had an effect or not and there is no real study that can argue either way. I do not believe that video game has effected people in that way though, i think its just an excuse.

Fiction wrote:So either you're trolling about trolling, or you're using the excuse of trolling to get out of looking stupid.

the way this sentence is constructed is wrong. A sentence shouldn't start with the word "so" in this manner and there doesn't need to be a comma before the word "or" but at least you are trying.

People whine and complain too much about nonsense...In a world without video games and many movies that depict crime/death people were killing each other in droves...Our generation hasn't seen a world war while in our grand parent's and great grand parent's era (void of video games) millions where dying in bomb raids and getting shot....

Well, do violent video games "desensitize people to violence?"
I think yes... in some cases
