This teacher is just setting a bad example on how to deal with problems. If a student did that to a teacher that student would be in deep shit..... She should have kicked him out of the class room which would have been a better and more appropriate solution for everyone.....

Not really.
Getting thrown out of the class would be a great solution for this kid. It would mean that he got to talk with however he wanted to talk to, and could relax for the next hour.
The main problem in schools today in regards to punishment is that many teachers believe it's enough to just throw kids outside of the room. Like that has ever been a punishment for the sutdent, lol. More like an extra free-hour.

That kid got what he deserved, and I sure hope his parents are NOT paying for his new phone! :)

In my country, if you get thrown out of the class enough times, you can get kicked out of school. So yeah, it is a punishment.

Has that ever happened to anyone?
Most of the times, it is nothing but warning on warning on warning on warning.
At least in my country. And the reason isn't all that hard to understand.
You see, for every student a school has, the state will donate a bit of money to the school to pay for teachers etc. If the kid gets thrown out of the school permanently, the school will not receive those money anymore.

So, as the school does not want to lose the funding from the government, they will not actually thrown anyone out unless it's a very serious matter. What they will do, however, is tell the students that if they do this and that they will be expelled. But the truth is that they will often never get expelled. Unless, as I said, it's a very serious matter. And frankly, talking on the phone in class is probably not serious enough to actually get expelled (you might get the warning, though).

^It happened before, they even kicked out some guys from senior year like 1 month before the end of the year. It happens quite often in my country, they rarely forgive anyone.

But weren't they kicked for something a bit more serious?

Anyway, where are you from? I'm getting quite curious here. I'm from Denmark by the way.

Bosnia and Herzegovina here. And I'm not talking about getting kicked out from the class for 3-4 times. If you get kicked out or you skip 24 classes, you get kicked out of school. And people here skip classses all the time. I was one of the better students in my class, and I got kicked out/skipped 22 classes in my senior year. Now you can see what I'm talking about. :D

In my school we can have 14 skipped classes in a school year before being thrown out. But the reality is that if you exceed that, you'll just have to talk to the teachers and then you might get a trial. Only two people were thrown out of our class last year(first year of high school) and we have another high school in our town which accepts pretty much everyone and never throws anyone out so that's where they go.

As I said, if this is one of the first times this Chinese kid gets thrown out, nothing will happen. I still believe the teacher did a good job in destroying the phone instead :sohappy:

Anyway, the system in your country, does it mean that you cannot be sick/ill for more than 22 classes through an entire year? What if you're sick for an entire week then?

You can be sick. You can miss class if you have a good reason, and, if you're sick, you have to go to the doctor and bring a little piece of paper that proves you were sick, and not just pretending.

^Same here. Only here all you need to do is have your parent send an email or call the teacher. Also we have kind of an electronic diary here, a web page where you can see your marks, homework, skipped classes and such. If your parent has an account too, they can also add a reason to all absences or you can do it yourself lol. In my school you also get a single absence for being late thrice. Some teachers don't mark your being late so it's not a problem.

^In my high school, parents have to bring that piece of paper from the doctor, because some students just skip the classes and go the doctor and lie that they're sick. And, if you're late for class, you get absence. Only if you travel to school by bus or you live far away from school you won't get absence (I was living like 300 meters from school Q.Q)

You're missing a very important point here....She's showing the class that physical violence and destroying personal property is justified if you're pissed off... For someone in a position with the responsibility to teach the next generation she's doing a horrible job...

I can just imagine how much of a spoiled brat she was as a child to be throwing childish fits as an adult....Her actions incite violence....in some schools that kid wouldav thrown his chair at her for that....What he did was wrong but as an adult who's job it is teach her action was worse.....

Kids are rude and unruly and can be inconsiderate at times but that's their MO at that age..They need someone to show them better...Adults like her I am sure should recognize this and use appropriate ways to deal with it which I am sure she was trained to do but failed horribly here
