I want to know your thoughts and maybe other cars that can be thrown into the mix

Since when is 270 crank HP fast? And their short gearing makes them fairly slow on the highways also. Dbag.
Evo 8. Why? 4G63, 'nuff said. $3,000 will usually get you to 350 AWHP, or above in the Evo, reliably.
A friend of mine has a DSM with a 4G63 swap in it, the engine is 23 years old, running stock internals [they're forged from factory], on 20 PSI whooping pretty much everything with under 400 HP. He's putting down 310 HP to the wheels currently and gets over 30 MPG. It's nice for a fun sleeper car.

One of my cousins owns a Subaru Impreza. The acceleration is one of its good qualities but it's not like you can really have fun with that type of car around NYC unless you're in the expressway.
Personally, I'm just gonna' get myself a little Mini Cooper this summer

Lets be real here, Subbies cost an arm and 2 legs to maintain and Mitsubishis are poorly made, pick your poison.

I would go with the STi because my brother had one and it was loads of fun whenever i got to drive it but recently they have been looking worse and worse IMO but the EVO still looks sexy. So purely from a cosmetic standpoint, I would go with the EVO.

I'd prefer the evo because I hate the hatchback design...whenever I drive one I feel like a 16 year old who had to buy the cheapest modifiable car.

Agreed.
Also, modifications makes the V-Tec kick in faster.

For having driven the STi (a non-modified wrx sti 2010 4Dr Sedan) with 330Hp, it is pretty awesome. Clutch is hard as fck though, (I guess it's the sport clutch... But lets just say that the AWD kicks in with the tubro without any lag, and WOW does it move like a MONSTER!)
(On a side note, I have a customer at work that invited me to play a game of golf with him last summer, and he *HAD* a modified STi developing 650HP, with everything except forged pistons, and I had the chance to have a ride in it. This one was a 5Dr hatchback though. HOLY HOLY HOLY MOLLY DID I SHIT BRICKS MANY MANY MANY TIMES). Pics or didn't happen:

No, They are nice JDM cars. They look nice in my opinion and they run super well. Who said it's just for the streets, there are tracks you can go to and see how fast your car is.

I strongly dislike DSM cars. Talons, Eclipses, all poop in my opinion.

Subarus are super cheap to maintain. They are way cheaper then an evo, well aftermarket parts are.

I was talking about the sedan, not the hatch.

They aren't all hatchbacks.

That's not even sitting on coil overs either. I love both cars because they are really nice, but I would go with a early model rex. The new ones look ugly if you ask me.

I honestly like the STi's hatchback look, it has a certain charm to it.
But I'm a NSX, Supra, RX7, R3(2-4) type of guy

They're made for rally racing if you get the proper model ofc.. Which is why I don't understand why kids these days waste money on this crap when they only use it for city driving.

That would make two of us. I was referring to the engine only, the 4G63, which is much stronger than the boxer engine. Overall I find the Evo and the Subi to be built like a pile of crap and a half, the only perks are AWD and the fact that they're turbo'd from factory. You can make them mildly fast with some pocket change, which is also nice.
@Juicy You can blame the God awful JDM movement for that. Since then these cars have been pussified and haven't been taken off-road since. Stance, hellaflush, and rice > actually driving the car the way it was made to be.

Only car that I like from the list is a RX7, you put a 350 small block in, holy shit would that be fun.
I love JDM cars, domestic cars are poopy in my opinion. Not all JDM cars are ricers and we don't all go for "hellaflush" or "stance" but it's nice to have as well. Honda and Subaru are my favorite car companys.

Someone explain why people use the phrase JDM outside of Japan, unless they're talking about exported cars or parts? Just cause you drive a civic doesn't mean you're rolling in JDM. I guess if you plaster your car in Type-R it makes a difference.
/Sorry if I'm confused on this one. I used to have a RSX Type-S and all my tuner friends always wanted me to get the red JDM honda emblems for it... never understood why it mattered.
Anyways, I'd rather buy a cheap corolla or altima over an EVO or STI(not to mention if you're buying used, you're getting an abused motor, and after 100k turbos start to wreak havoc) if I were just gonna use it for a DD.
Also Mitsubishi is kinda shitty, and pretty sure they won't be around in the international market for much longer.

Red emblem, black hood, top, trunk lid of car, and a couple jdm/hellaflush/illest stickers = jdm

On a side note, here's what happened to that RSX... All the JDM saved my life!
That little JDM magnet was slapped on by one of my tuner buddies...

Technicaly Honda civic will always be JDM. You can build really nice cars and if you treat them right they will last. Of course a used WRX or Evo is going to be beat on. But You would have to be stupid to blow and engine before 150k miles if it's stock. A stage 2 WRX will should let you last till 150k miles unless you launch from every stop light and are at 6k rpm constantly.
