Although, no hours have actually been cut yet. And hell, they may never be. But on the other hand, I have heard of quite a few companies considering doing similar things. I'll have to check my facts and shit sometime to make sure everything I heard is true, but it's 5:42 A.M. So, you know. =]

Just another CEO who is too greedy to give his employees everything they deserve. He really doesn't deserve anything he has, everything was built on all his employees labor, and he just got lucky enough to have the idea to start a pizza business, and make it successful. Honestly if you think about it, it was really the government in the first place that allowed him to thrive. He should be giving all his profit to taxes, imo. Then the government should take that tax money and give everyone health care, so we don't have to worry about it. It's stupid that in this 1st world country we have to worry about paying for health care.

So this guy can't spare any $ for health care.. for his employees Eh?

As one of his employees, I don't blame him. And I wouldn't be supprised if more and more restaurants follow suit. Effectively hurting every hard working employee out there. Again, GG.

According to the news report, the company will face a new financial expense between 5 and 8 million dollars. According to Avalance's post, the company stated that prices may have to increase between 10-14c and according to the news article both price increases and employee hours reductions need to occur to cover the expense.

Now, for this calculation I shall use the highest estimated cost and the lowest estimated price increase. So bare in mind these are the worst possible recorded figures.

How many Pizza's does each Papa John's store need to sell with the 10c price increase to collectively reimburse the cost of the Obamacare project?

On the 16th of September, Papa John's celebrated opening it's 4000th store. So for the purpose of this calculation I will assume there are 4000 stores world wide.

8,000,000/0.10 = 80,000,000
This figure is the number of pizza's that need to be collectively sold within one given year with the additional 10c increase to compensate that expense.
80,000,000/4000 = 20,000
This is the number of pizza's that each individual store must sell within a given year with the 10c increase to fully recover the expense.
20,000/365 = 54.8 (rounded up to 1 decimal place)
This is the number of pizza's each individual store must sell, each day, with a 10c increase to fully recover the $8,000,000 business expense.

So roughly 55 pizzas a day. I know I'm no business analyst, but if a company isn't selling over 55 pizzas how on earth do they expect to stay afloat? Assuming the price of a pizza is roughly $10 (seems average for Australia, anyway) than that's a daily revenue stream (excluding drinks etc) of $550. Total weekly revenue of $3850. That figure would barely cover wages for a week, let alone rent and franchise fees. Of course disregarding additional revenue streams but trying to prove a point that 50 odd pizzas a day is such a small amount for a business that's main product is pizzas. Prices will fluctuate too etc etc etc, don't try to argue this point as I know I'm swinging wildly here. I'd love to get some official daily sales statistics but I just don't have them.

So by my very simple logic there's no need for all these working hour decreases, a simple 10c increase will more than suffice even the worst case scenario and, like I predicted, their opinion is more politically motivated than anything else.

I shall attempt to find you some statistics from my store. Though it's not a horribly busy one. We definitly do sell more than 50 pizzas a day. Not to mention cheeseticks, cinapies, bread sticks, garlic parm bread sticks, wings, chicken strips, soda, etc.

I should probably clarify, I actually only work like 20ish hours so it won't effect me either way. But I dislike the idea of being unable to increase that to 40, should I choose to.

Here's how I look at it, in a simplified form:

Before Obama care, I could work 40 hours a week. After Obama care, I can't. And that directly effects MY lively hood. Which is what I have a problem with.

No one is making him pay money for having a business. They're making him pay money to insure the people who work for him. You know. Like we do with buildings and cars and property. It's insurance...

You should react by blaming the guy who can control your life so heavily just by not accepting a small amount of money out of his paycheck. It is after all his corporation, if he wanted you to have 40 hours a week he could have them to you directly what Obama did to help millions pissed off your employer now he's forcing it to effect you.
