MONTREAL - A celebration of the Parti Quebecois' return to power was shattered Tuesday - first by a political disappointment, then by a stunning tragedy.
The party won a minority government with a weaker-than-desired result, of 54 seats won out of 125, that could severely limit its ability to pursue its independence agenda.
A victory speech by premier-in-waiting Pauline Marois was then marred by an exceptionally ugly scene: she was whisked off the stage by guards during an attack in which two people were shot, one was killed, and a fire was set behind the hall where she spoke.
Sad and tragic, for the victims and those close to them. Seriously.. there has been way too many public shootings from idiotic "gun" toting, Psychos Something has to be done!

As an Ontarian, Marois looks like an idiot. Sovereignty will destroy Quebec. I will concede that I didn't read up on any of the party platforms so I'm a little ignorant as to what other plans she has for Quebec.
However, given that she has a minority, the Liberals have a strong showing in the house and the CAQ has stated they're not going to create a coalition with either the PQ or the Liberals. Hopefully that means compromise between the three of them and things get done for the good of the province. The alternative is three parties bitching at each other, nothing being accomplished, and Quebec not progressing in any way.
The meathead that tried to kill her and her supporters should be left in a small inflatable raft in the middle of the Atlantic with no food or water.

No but Marois is dumb. That being said, no one deserves that kind of threat.

I don't see the need for a separation....That's like moving backwards...Especially for a nation that promotes and tolerates multiculturalism like Canada.....It is possible to maintain your sense of identity and still coexist...And trying to form your own nation because you can't stand how Canada governs doesn't guarantee a better solution...
You'll try hard to show your difference only to realize your the same....same human beings with the same problems as the rest of the world...You may even end up wanting to separate further form yourselves.....into Northern and Southern Quebec....Who knows...a house divided is weak...we're all one (heading that way at least)...don't fight it...Its beautiful..

**** no, keep Quebec away from the USA. Why would I want some intellectual/tolerant assholes ruin my bigoted/retarded country? I live in 'Merica! Where people think being fat is genetic, and being a LGBT is a choice.* Seriously, I hate my Farking country, not because it's the USofA but mainly because of the majority of the population are the same as the Canadian "rednecks." Though I do understand the rest of world suffers from these kind of people, but usually they don't have a say in their politics.

I'm an anglophone ferderalist but Canada needs to recognize Quebec and give it more autonomy. Heading into Quebec is not like flying from New York to Dallas. Quebec is different.

It really depends where in QC you go. Gatineau and the Outaouais region really isn't all that different from ON. I will definitely agree that when you go to Quebec City, Trois-Rivieres, Gaspe, etc. there is a different atmosphere and culture.
I'm all for creating a "Quebec Citizenship" and I don't even find their English language restrictions as far as signage and what-not goes. I do however have an issue with les Quebecois wanting to denounce the feds while at the same time receiving federal funding.

Canada should let quabec become its own country... then create a no fly zone over a 50 mile radius around quabec. also they should then guard the fences around quabec to stop anyone getting out... they probably get power from outside of quabec, somewhere in canada i expect so canada should hike the prices up for that or just cut it off completely... next canada could decline any trade to or from quabec.
then lets see if quabec comes begging to be part of canada again.

They have approx. $70 billion (US) in exports with a population of almost 8 million. The majority of their exports are to the United States. One of their major exports is energy and they could still fly from Quebec airspace to American airspace. Also, if Canada didn't allow them to fly through Canadian airspace they would block the St. Lawrence river which would block a large amount of imports and exports to/from the interior of Canada.

the point is to make that export number go down so much they are unable to continue as their own nation... you cant expect to break away and just keep economy and business and just ignore the other party. canada can find other ways of import and export, it doesnt need quebec to do it even if it did make it easy.

Ities in the usa and ontario, if we become a country which i dear god hope not, we would become even richer and we could sustain ourselves more than the surrounding cities LOL...
