Well.. It's a pretty simple question.
Do you want it and how would you react if you got it?

I'd be down for Hollywood famous. I'd cry about it later but I'd look back and say worth it. :yay:

Exactly my point. Same for being famous because you helped mankind, are a movie star or you just did something dumb that millions and millions of people saw on youtube.

Then there is the point of being famous worldwide, continentwide, nationwide, regionwide, citywide?

Only one type of fame will apparently get people to spell your name right... :sohappy:

On topic: I would want to be famous if it means I'd be rich. If I was just as poor as I am now then it would just be a nuisance to be famous.

But having no money can show you what's really important in life.. such as family and friends.

As long as I could be famous and still be able to smoke the herb whenever I wanted. If famous and rich then yes.

Spoiler!

I'd accept fame assuming it was for the right reason (some academic or humanitarian reason perhaps).

I'd rather my life be dictated by the quality of people who know me, rather than the quantity. I would despise being famous, no matter for what reason it is. I don't like the idea of being interrupted in a cafe when all I am trying to do is enjoy a cup and observe the world. Or being held up at a bar because someone decided they'd interrupt my night because they know of me and thought they'd like to socialise with me. Fame is not a pot from which I'll be served.

It really depends on being famous for what. I really doubt many people would recognize Shigeru Miyamoto outside of Japan, but I'm sure we all know Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc etc of the series he has created. Now if we talk Kim Kardasian then you're known for being a whore and everybody knows it and will stop to talk to you.

Strange world we live in. It really depends on famous for what.

being held up at a bar because someone decided they'd interrupt my night because they know of me and thought they'd like to socialise with me.

Bender had that happen. Ha, but it wasn't like the guy knew it was him. Again it really depends for what. That even goes for Billy West. I'm sure he's more known than other voice actors far more known, but I doubt people know his face.

This is a really poorly worded question. I don't want to be Kony famous, but I could deal with Ryan Reynolds famous.

Your tired, hung over, sitting on a park bench regretting everything you did the night before. The tequila shots, the hookers, the alley way fights; it's all a blur obscured by the vision of the vomit around your feet. During this blissful moment, a bunch of kids and adults come screaming up to you "OMG IT'S SKYVE! OMG IT'S ACTUALLY HIM! SKYVE! SKYVE!! CAN I HAVE YOUR PICTURE?! SIGN MY TSHIRT!!"

Yeah, sounds super fun.

Even if it wasn't in such a horrible situation, autographs would suck. I hate being interrupted by things that I don't plan on achieving. If I plan to go and read at a park, I just want to read at a park. Nothing else. Why would I want people interrupting me to sign bits of paper that will soon forget about? Or just "chitchat" with them? Sounds like a terrible thing.

I don't need other people to validate my work; my own sense of accomplishment will do that for me.

You're just coming off as anti-social(and I hate to jump to conclusions). I live for those unexpected moments. Say I'm taking a walk downtown and someone from school recognizes me, I smile and enjoy the fact that we're socializing. Guess I just love to talk. Not every second of my life is a deep thoughtful moment where I gaze off to another world.

I mean yeah there's moments where it's just like "Oh ****, not him/her" but these moments happen whether you're famous or not. My question is, why wouldn't you want people to just "chitchat" with you? Are they really not worth your time?

Well put my friend.

It's not that I'm anti-social, I do socialise with my friends quite often and many afternoons and weekends are spent talking bollocks with my mates. The biggest problem I have though is that, most of the time, I dislike talking to complete and utter strangers.

I do talk to strangers, but it's usually in a polite way. If an elderly person next to me on a train asks what I'm reading than I'll be polite, put the book down and converse. I once had an incredibly long, and amazing, conversation with an author one day due to this exact scenario. But these conversations are quite rare and I like it that way. Once in a blue moon and I don't mind, but if this was happening everywhere I go I'd go mental. I like to have a lot of time to myself, I do most of my contemplation while alone. If I was so famous that I was getting approached each and every day and having my plans interrupted than I wouldn't enjoy it.

Perhaps you'd consider me anti-social or whatever, but this is the lifestyle that works for me. Fame seems to be the polar opposite or what I consider important or desirable.
