A short post as I'm on my phone. Anyone watched if yet? I just saw it at IMAX in 3D. I personally thought the visuals were impressive but the plot lackluster and they missed a opportunity to convey deep meaning on a rather significant subject matter.
Post dem opinions!

I have no desire to see this movie whatsoever. I don't quite understand the hype behind it (Unless we're talking about Mrs.Theron), but other then that? Looks very "Meh'ish".
Having said that, I may end up going to see it anyways with some friends tomorrow night.

The story does indeed lack some plot. It's a movie you might want to see for the effect, and just to be able to say "yeah, I've seen that one". But you shouldn't watch it for the story.
I too was hoping they would dig deeper into the whole "Where do we come from, what do the Aliens want" etc. But then again, it's very clear that this movie should only be the "taster". The real plot will probably be in the second movie, which I'm sure they'll make.

I haven't seen it yet but based on what you guys are saying about the plot I am not surprised....Hollywood nearly always seem to drop the ball on some of the most interesting subject matter in story telling.

I just watched it several hours ago ITS NOT WORTH GOING TO THE THEATER
this is one of those movies that you should borrow at your local library when you are bored and have nothing to do. The first 1/3 of the movie was really cool and the build-up was nice, and then everything falls apart when the action starts. Trailer makes the movie look awesome but its actually really gay

Saw it friday and story-wise it wasn't as in-depth that I expected with Ridley scott's name associated with a movie (got gladiator, blade runner, and alien...all those movies were awesome). This movie only felt like a build up to another movie, yet alone is there any guarantee that there will be one. Left you with more questions than answers.

See my family watched it and they said it felt like a prequel to the Alien movies, which makes sense seeing as Ridley Scott's name is attached to it.
They also said there is very little actual plot, and it could be described in 3-4 sentences.
I'll wait until it's on HBO/Showtime

Great visuals but as everyone has mentioned, the plot leaves much to be desired. A post analysis of the film, however, somewhat redeems this flaw. It attempts to answer most of the important questions (Why do the Engineers want to destroy us?) and deconstructs the Judeo-Christian and Greek mythos that are prevalent throughout the film. The essay also argues the central theme: the conflict between selflessness through the sacrifice of ones life versus selfishness through the sacrifice of other lives.
Don't forget to leave your mind open, but at the same time, hold on to skepticism.

Prometheus is the prequel to Alien afaik. Haven't seen it because I don't have much interest in it. A couple of my friends really want to see it though.

That link was rather interesting and shed a lot of light on aspects of the film where I sat there thinking "surely I am missing a hell of a lot of backstory here". My problem with it though is that, for a very mainstream films, it's "too" symbolic and I feel that unless you have a large pool of knowledge on ancient mythology than it just won't make any sense at all.
I consider myself a pretty intelligent guy and usually over analyse most things that are presented to me (reference: every post I've ever typed >_>) and yet I still had no idea what was going on. I'm sure a large portion of people in the cinema, both more and less intelligent than myself, felt the same. Without all that back story how is one meant to understand such in-depth references? Especially when it seems that the entire plot is centred solely around this idea and little can be drawn for it otherwise. I don't know, I'm still pretty disappointed in the film, but I suppose I shouldn't backlash it too much for being beyond the scope of my knowledge.

Unless it was supposed to be a really direct prequel they should have done better explaining the backstory. Also, they tried to be really philosophical, poetic, etc and ended up failing hard. Scott is supposed to be a much better director I don't know what the hell happened this time.
