Project Glass

The video has been out for a while now, but I've been a bit slow in posting it. Perhaps some people have heard of the concept, perhaps not. Anyway, this is the concept video google created. It's pretty interesting and worth a look, although I personally think the current technology is a long way off.

I don't even have a smartphone. This stuff is not for me. I still think the concept is pretty cool, but I can't see myself using this.
Don't you think it will be annoying to get pop ups in your field of vision all the time?

I personally don't think it will be any more annoying than pulling out my mobile phone every 3 minutes, completely losing all of my field of vision as I stare blankly at it responding to the 2355474 notifications I just got.

As for talking to yourself comment, we already talk to mobile phones all the time and we don't think that is strange. I think it will be exactly the same as that: just another every day thing people do.

I can really see this device replacing my phone, as long as they work on the design factor a bit better (the glasses aren't all that subtle, well the prototype anyway). They are a lot of issues to tackle, such as areas with no internet and the "people will just steal it off you because it will be worth a billion dollars", not to mention people with subscription glasses. But none the less the concept is something I've long believed should exist.

Well apart from the fact that this is almost completely different other than the fact that it in some way shape or form talks back to you..

yes, you are probably the only one to think that.

What I meant is they took the idea from apple and developed it! I could be wrong but I think the iPhone was the first phone to have a program that somewhat intreact with you!!

I have no idea, but voice recognition software on phones with trivial interactivity has been around for a while. Before Siri was out I could talk to my phone and say something like "browse to silkroadforums.com" and depending on what I said it could reply "sorry I don't understand, try again" or something else.

But in that case we aren't talking to ourselves.

you have siri too plus hands free kits are hands free so you have to say shit like call mom etc that's talking to your self but from an outside view they don't know you have a hands free kit they can just see you talking

Just encase you haven't seen the prototype, it's a big set of glasses that are instantly distinguishable to anyone who isn't blind. I think its going to be pretty darn clear that your not talking to yourself and you are, in fact, talking to your glasses.

I was replying Master_Wong with his statement about tiny headsets and hands free kits to talk with SOMEONE else over the phone... which you are not really talking to yourself, more like with the person over the phone. This prototype is pretty similar, you do talk to yourself almost all the time to say a word or even as simple as texting. in some case you do make phone calls and videochat... but you do completely talk to yourself in some cases lol

+1 It would be a funny Crazy sight, seeing a bunch of people talking to themselves in the future.

Maybe the first phone, but not the first computer. WAY back in grade school, I had a computer with a Sound Blaster sound card in it. I believe the computer was a 486-based PC, maybe even older, back in the early '90s. It had a Talking Parrot program on it that interacted with you somewhat. So it's not exactly new technology.
