Internet problem

Alright I've been having a problem for the last 2 days, I cant connect to the Internet without being in safe mode with networking. I don't have my firewall turned on and i think it may be a virus or some other Program thats blocking access. But I need an anti virus that can take care of getting rid of it. But besides it being a virus, is there any other tips? I've also tried to do a system restore but that didn't work. I'm running windows 7 64bit on a dell xps9100

As for the virus, try downloading Malwarebytes AntiMalware. It's pretty good at removing malware and stuff. If it is some sort of virus, that is.

First make sure it isn't the firewall stopping the connection, if it is
Disable your firewall completely. All firewall settings and see if it works. Problem is you don't want to risk having your firewall down,or else whats the point of having it. So go through every firewall setting, each time checking your browser and searching a for a page until you find the one setting that restricts you.
If that doesn't work
Try this:
- Click Start
- Type the word msconfig into the Search box and press Enter
- Untick every tick mark under the Startup tab.
- Click the Services tab, then tick the box that hides the Microsoft services.
- Untick every remaining tick mark.
- Reboot the machine.
- If this fixes the problem, restore the tick marks in groups of 8 until you find the culprit.

What does this exactly mean?
This it mean when u open a browser it shows: page can not be displayed? (due to no internet)
OR
U aren't even receiving an IP adress/gateway/DNS?
Option one: is most likely caused by a change in Antivirus or other recently changed program that has something to do with AV/Firewell/internetconnection
Option two: more likely u got a rootkit problem (eg ZeroAccessRootkit)
In any case:
Run Combofix (this is one of the best tools around, cleans virusses & rootkits. If rootkits are detected, it will warn u & combofix will reboot the pc in order to remove the rootkits. After that it will start the normal scan. DO NOT INSTALL THE RECOVERY CONSOLE ON XP)
and TDSSkiller (also to remove rootkits, made by Kaspersky)
After running these in safe mode with network, also run both once in normal mode as some nasty stuff likes to nests itself in AV/Firewall software/keys
If the above didn't help, I'll post some more things that u could try.
Also, mbam is great, but doesn't remove rootkits & other very nasty stuff.
Links to the programs:
combofix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/downloa ... s/combofixTDSSkiller:
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM COMBOFIX.ORG!!! it's a fake website & the program itself install even more crap.
IE in W7 & vista might say combofix is a program that isn't downloaded much & such blabla. Just ignore.
Combofix gets updated every few hours! If it's not too old, it will even update itself.
Also, I'm having a blast at work with all these E-cops, Bundespolizei & other shitty virusses that ask for a 100$ in order to remove them ><

Thanks for all your suggestions, when I said I can't go online in normal mode, I meant browsers and other programs. But I also can't even find the wireless networks on the computers. But In safe mode it just finds it and connects automatically. I'll download your programs and post results. Thanks

Alright I tried using the combo program above it ran its scans and then restarted I did msconfig step by step process but it didnt do me any good. Any other advice I don't know what's wrong and I'm getting pretty frustrated its been like this for 3 days

I've got Internet in safe mode so I don't see how this could be that big of a problem

any other tips?

Run the Malwarebytes program if you haven't already. It's really good.

If combofix couldn't find any real threats, probably something else that got ......
Most likely something went wrong with ur Antivirus/Firewall.
1/ open command line (cmd as admin in vista/7) and running following things:
ipconfig /flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
REBOOT
I've had a few customers who had switched from AV program and after that they had the same problem as u.
Getting IP/DNS/Gateway, but anything trying to go out/in, doesn't work.
eg. Page can not be displayed, can't download emails, can't update games
But pinging through cmd does work.
2/ Did u change your Antivirus or Internet Security program recently?
3/ When u remove ur Antivirus, does the problem still persist?

I don't know if it has changed, but combofix was never a tool for detecting all types of malware. It was made for specific infections.

It doesn't remove everything, but it removes the worst/deepest infections.
combofix + roguefix + mbam + superantispyware + hijackthis
and some knowledgde about what u can & can not remove will get u very far
But some infections have a specific program to remove them & undo all the changes that were made.
But it doesn't happen often.
