It's a fully functional, single board, computer that can run many different linux distros. It has ethernet, 2 usb ports, HDMI, audio out, etc... all on a board not much bigger than a credit card (not thickness obviously).

My main boner, it plays 1080p video extremely well, even Quake 3 gameplay is smooth.

Sooo, I want one to turn into a little media player / game system emulator. :sohappy:

The huge wave of traffic has crashed both distributors...

EDIT: Finally got one of the sites to load, got an order through for when they come back in stock.

UH WTF? size of a credit card? LOL I thought it was a generic mobo. So basically is like a micro-pc huh?I still don't get it.. what do I need besides this? xD

Wooo

Okay for everyone still confused like I was

As Raspberry Pi launches today, Robert Mullins demonstrates exactly how easy it is to get started with the credit card sized Raspberry Pi. Simply plug in your monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system and power via a usb adapter and it will boot in 15 seconds.

I'm gonna get one!

Wait when are they being released? I only see the "are you interested" option, not a buying one.

It's sold out, afaik. You can only pre-order which is that "interested" thingy, I suppose.

Damn, hope they make/get new units soon. I hope they are limiting order sizes at launch... people probably want dozens of these.

The distributors underestimated the amount of demand. Farnell and RS components both crashed last night. I was able to get an actual pre-order through Farnell, and expressed interest at RS. Total was £26.55. Both are sold out apparently, but will be getting more boards soon. And, it was suppose to be limited to 1 per customer.

Yes thank you for showing me the video of quake dropping down to 9frames constantly.

I'm more interested of using it more of a mobile media center instead of carrying my PC or streaming to my PS3. I'll wait out for a bit until they put a case over the next version and see more support.

It was at 1080p with 4x AA... do the math. I didn't say it was a gaming beast, but for what it is that's impressive.

I too want it mostly for a media station. I also want to see how well it will function as a game emulator.. N64, NES, sega, etc...

What? It can't play Quake 3 at 120 fps? What am I wasting my $50 USD on? I thought it was supposed to be a 30 dollar supercomputer... :palm:

I'm impressed but not really. Maybe if they somehow managed to pack the features of a gaming beast into something that small then I'd be super impressed. But they're off to a good start.

This has been in the hype of /g/ for a few days. Ppl were really excited for its release. But when it did, from what i've heard, they only sell to people around Europe and getting one from abroad would rather be costly. Speaking of price. I've also read that its original price of $35 -> $55 now. and Only 35 pcs. were made... for beta testing... lol

anyways i could be wrong though... Anyways when someone posts to /g/ about the Raspberry Pi... they label it now as "vaporeware", which is kinda sad :(
