Buying a new router

As the title says: i'm looking for a new reliable router.
I've looked into what's available myself but specifications never really show how reliable a router is.

The problems i'm having with my current router are that it tends to randomly drop the wireless signal (or even wired, once in a while); it doesn't always show up in the list of available WiFi connections on laptops / phones and even when it does connecting to it can be a pain.
I've already made sure my router is in the most 'traffic free' channel etc.

Summarized:
What kind of router do you advise and is the 5Ghz / dual band worth a bit of extra money?

Edging towards the Netgear WNDR3800 premium.
Spoiler!

That netgear router you have in mind is pretty good in terms of configurability

Max range will be under 10 meters. Will be having 4 laptops on it, two Pc's (wired) and 3 phones.

That many devices is prolly what causes your current one to drop it's signal. A router, even though it can connect multiple devices, can only send out data at one single time so it uses packets to do so. Little bits of information from each device are put into the packets. Dual band would surely help in this case with 7 devices. Dual band means you can set up 2 different access points to the router. For instance, one could be for 2.4ghz and the other for 5ghz connections.
