Have you done it? Currently i have been trying to improve my HTC Wildfire, because the update it is at, has no Live Wallpapers, and Wildfire specifically cannot run Live Wallpapers without a ROOT which is from what i've seen a pretty daunting process, also Using ROOT on your HTC also gives you more options which i wont get into, but it's pretty useful, IMO, has anyone else done it?

I haven't rooted my inspire, but if needed to get Ice cream sandwich update, I will.

I also heard it brings a whole new aspect to the Android OS, Check out Androidcentral, they talk about rooting each phone and upcoming stuff.

Used Androidcentral, gave me a tutorial on the drivers, gave me a google USB Driver, got quite far through the video in steps, and it said that the driver doesn't work with x64 bit based systems

I've rooted all my 3 of my htc phones. Look for a workaround on the drivers, if not just virtual xp32bit and do it from there. Or if not just do it on a friends x86 pc

Rooting is so easy. Flashing new roms/kernels can be tricky, but the dev's usually post flawless directions so if you follow that you'll be fine.

Got a rooted Samsung Fascinate on CM7/MIUI running Gingerbread 2.3.5 and overclocked to stable 1200 mhz with -50 undervolt. Its 3x faster than stock, no bloatware, better battery life, all the cool works.

HTC phones are easy to root - the only ones you got to worry about is Motorola phones. They have a locked bootloader.

Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/ - Thats where all the devs are for all the phones. Lots of guides and helpful people there.

what does "roots" do anyways?
There is like a super popular app that has to be "rooting your Android" but I has not idea what root means or does to your mobile device

Allows users to totally customize their phone.. changing and accessing the system files. Apps like ROM Manager allow you to flash new ROMs that can change the whole entire software of the phone to a custom one. Or use an app like Barnacle Tether that allows you to tether your 3G/4G without paying for the extra package for ATT or Verzion etc.

Using that site's tutorial now, haven't had too much time today to do it, but hopefully will have a "ROOTED" phone by the end of the day.

*EDIT* Phone was being nutty, will try again tomorrow or tuesday, Finding my CID became a bitch.
