I wouldn't be surprised if such an event would take place within the next 5 years, have a hard time imagining we could go 10 years without this happening.

Erasing all the major bank's and financial institution's records from all stored locations would have an effect larger than 9/11... It would be sweet to watch the economy crumble overnight creating panic amongst the rich and wealthy.

btw, I am assuming it is russians and chinese mostly, although I'm sure religious extremists from the Middle East have their hacking targets too.
It's one of the reasons I keep a generator and a supply of gas.

dunno i guess the internet 9/11 will happen just after the 8th of november but of course its just before 10/11

how does it make any sense going month/day/year?
as for the internet meltdown these days you would have to hit pretty much any large server on the planet to bring down the internet as we know it but the internet as a system will remain aslong as there are a number of computers stil networked.
if thats not what you mean i dont know at all what your on about the internet is already been hacked its no big deal no one will die maybe a few lose their jobs thats about it life will go on

Potential e-9/11 scenarios I can think of:
- Facebook hacked, all personal info of millions revealed.
But would it actually really do that much?? correct me if I'm wrong, but nothing is bought through facebook. Few people will lose money or anything of extreme importance. I actually imagine the userbase of facebook simply dying off, which more or less can be considered a good thing...
- Ebay hacked
Now this one I can imagine becoming a problem... it's probably the biggest site out there with people's bank account numbers and stuff like that, I imagine this could truly become a large problem. But still I wonder, would it be a true 9/11 blow to the internet as a whole?

Americans generally say November 10th 2011, not 10th of November 2011. That may answer your question.

More importantly, who gives a shit? It's a date order, it's not something to completely derail a thread over. Seriously.
As far as the whole internet thing goes, the biggest downfall of the internet is the lack of awareness of it's users. People don't realise how insecure everything is and one day, it will really screw people over. Just take the Sony attacks, for example. Give it 10 years and it will all hit the fan.

actually it wouldn't be as bad as that
there are constant "backups" to all the databases that have ANYTHING to do with any major financial institution
at most it would cause severe headaches and maybe one or two suicides

thats my point it makes no sense when is it done that way, day, month, year is assending order it makes sense hell year, month day makes sense but monday, day, year has no use other then to confuse people, granted your used to it but that really aint the point. does anyone know why americans do it this way?
