Jobs that require you to be standing all the time

Most annoying thing in almost every job I've had, standing for 6-9 hours can be the hardest part of your job, if you're working at a fast food restaurant, gas station.. etc.
So if you have/had a job that require you to be standing all the time, how do/did you deal with it?

Used to be a bartender. Quite honestly I couldn't really deal with it, never found a solution.

Yeah that can be annoying.
The gas station I worked at a few years ago had a back room though, and it wasn't busy all the time so I just sat there and read something/watched tv when there weren't any customers

EDIT: Good point by Seji, good shoes are a must

I used to fry donuts. quickest solution, get foam/gel inserts for your shoes. They really did help.

Comfy shoes never really helped me much.
So, I just got so good at my job, *taking orders in drive-through most often* so that I could just go sit in the break room, which just so happened to be by where I took the orders, whenever we didn't have any customers.
Managers didn't mind since I'd already done all my sidework/whatever. One night we were so slow, I literally sat back there for like 45 minutes, watching TV, while on the clock.
T'was awesome.

i used to operate machines in a factory in 8 hour shifts. always standing, except for short 10-15min breaks. it was doable but thank god for the weekends ._. at least i'm sure i won't be doing that for the rest of my life hehe
edit: shoes werent all that comfy, it was work shoes with steel noses -,-
its the short breaks that got me through the shifts

Comfy gel inserts and if you do your job long enough your body should adapt. I've never worked a truly stationary job where you stand all day in the same spot, but I did work construction and you are on your feet all day. It's even better if you are working in rafters or a roof all day, dem ankles.

It's not quite the same but in a pharmacy one stands up for quite a big portion of your time.
It killed my feet the first 1-2 weeks but after a while you just get used to it.

Ok, now don't think I'm trying to be mean here, but is standing up really that hard? I use to work in a sawmill doing incredibly intensive labour. By intensive, I mean I'd grab a 50kg piece of timber, carry it around, dump it, rinse and repeat. I'd operate machines that have blades bigger than my entire body, have to lift 3m trees and feed them into a de-barker. I always stood, while working hard, and it didn't affect me. Standing up is.. kind of easy? It wasn't the standing up that bothered me, the only part that bothered me was how dirty I got.
In my current job I'm also standing all day as well, although I'm in IT now so it's not physically demanding. But even then it's still not something that bothers me in the slightest. I just don't understand why people think standing is so hard to do, hell it's something that I do just about all day, every day, without even thinking.

The only thing that sucks about standing is when you're standing, and not doing anything.
For instance, at McDonalds, I could care less if I was standing when we were busy/had stuff to do. It was when we were dead, with absolutely nothing to do but stand there and look pretty, that was annoying.
But you're right, it's not that hard. Human's just like to bitch at anything and everything.

Oohhhh hardcore! Standing a long time for those not used to it can cause fatigue, pain, discomfort, etc in their back, legs, feet, etc.
-I sometimes get bad back pain from standing all day in a bass boat while fishing if I wear bad shoes (aka sandals).
-My legs and knees are pretty damn exhausted/achy after standing several hours at A&M football games.
I'm not use to standing for long periods of time anymore since I don't work in those kind of conditions. I'm in a school chair/desk all day or in a pc chair at home. I workout 4 days a week and have really strong back and leg muscles, but that does nothing for long term endurance.
Moral of the story, the more you do it the better your body will adapt (usually).

Yeah working in a restaurent, I know what you mean.
I just... find a spot in the kitchen and sit down. I'm pretty chill with the manager so he doesn't really care when it's not busy.
@MrTwilinger ; Exactly, you we're standing up & working. The problem is when you have nothing to do but you got to stand up for no reason..

besides the above posts, posture is essential if u want to eliminate any other pains. sometimes, people will want to stand on one foot or side ( i do ) so you must do the same for the other side to balance out. standing up so your body is aligned is a good way to prevent pains/soreness

The thread was before I go to work, now I've came back and laying down on my cozy chair, and I can still feel some beats(yeah beats like they're a drum) in them, I'm using My old shoes but now I'm thinking about buying a better ones for work, it's still my 7th day in this job, before that I used to buy and sell old computers/computer parts so there was no standing in it, maybe later I'll get used to this, although I didn't before :/.

Masturbating in front of everyone without anyone actually seeing me. That did it for me, forgot all about the standing...

I once had a job for a little while where I had to cut up pieces of wallpaper so they could put them into the wrapping stuff as example. The problem with that was that I was too tall for the machine so I always had to work under a slight angle and that was killing my back. Besides that I had to stand/walk all the time.
You just have to keep yourself busy so you won't think about your feet and how they are hurting from all the standing o.O Goodluck figuring out how to do that though haha.
