Small world, eh?

hey guys, got a fun little story to tell you :)

So uhm, I've met loads of people over the last 6-7 years online and I'm in a community with about 15 solid friends that go back 6 years or so. We're on ventrilo every day playing all kinds of games etc ,you get the picture.

This one guy, whom I've known since forever, but rarely spoken to, was talking to us, and he brought up that he had some family over from holland (he lives in the UK). I was like oh , where do they live? And he said "Roermond". At first I assumed he was trolling (we do that -- extensively) because that's practically where I live and everyone (but him apparently) knows that, but after a bit of careful approaching by me not to fall for a huge troll attempt, he mentioned what his last name was and that of his family. I asked him if the familiy members that came over from holland had the same name. He said "yea man that's my family".

At this point, I knew he wasn't trolling because I actually know that family in Roermond and there's no way he could possibly know that. Hell I didn't even know his last name until that point.

We exchanged some names, and after about 10 of them it became apparent that I actually knew them. We sort of had this WTF moment for a minute or so, and then we talked some more, he still didn't really believe me though so he went "..... it, let's go on facebook".

The very first picture he showed me, my jaw dropped. Literally. It dropped. It was a picture with my EX in it!!

We were like O_______________________O for about 5 minutes grinning and talking about the family and all the people in it, and he couldn't believe that I dated her.... It was serious too we dated for years and she practically lived here with me. We were a close couple and I have a ton of awesome memories during my time with her. We sort of grew apart and our interests just went seperate ways about 2 years ago though... I knew she had family in the UK too, but she only went there once and I couldn't come because I ended up in the hospital the night before with a horribly broken and f'd up arm :/

So. Pretty epic story right? Here comes the part that REALLY stirred things up... We talked for ages and suddenly he mentioned that he actually moved to the UK when he was young. I actually knew this but it didn't seem relevant because it was so long ago that he moved, I didn't know his last name either. We filled in the blanks and it appears he actually lived in my town when he was younger. One thing led to another, and you will not believe this... we were super good friends like 10-15 years ago... (I'm almost 21)

We basically talked for the entire night (I'm still up now and it's 3 PM lol :X) and seriously guys, this was one of the best and most joyful days I've ever had online, and this will be a memory that will remain close with me for the rest of my life....

^___^

He has my ex at his place, and he used to be my best Farking friend pretty much... wow I still can't believe it... I'm gonna book a flight for next month somewhere and we're gonna par-tay like I did a few years ago. Awesome point my life :D

That's pretty cool, I've always wished I could meet some old friends online that I've fell out of contact with.

Nice one dude.

I actually just met Aventuris yesterday IRL.

Turns out he is starting University where i go, so that was pretty cool. Definitely nothing on the same level of epic realizations as yours, but cool non the less.

That is pretty crazy. Never had anything quite that shocking, did find out a guild mate lived like 30 minutes away from me though, which is rare, considering where I live.

I'm still in contact with my first "solid" online/gaming friend from 06. We have each other on Facebook and such. Would be sick if I'd get to meet him. :D

That is pretty crazy! I had a similar experience... I once met someone from my small city, where I lived most my life in Germany (10k people) in the southernmost settlement in Alaska, only accessible from Canada by a small forestry road or by ferry on a small campground. Turns out he was the grandfather of my best friend from elementary school who moved to Canada over 40 years ago. Small world indeed :)

Also, Key-J is awesome. Nuff' said.

So your best friend is possibly plowing the same field as you did? Whats that part about your ex being at "his place".... This will be kinda awkward if you should visit them...(not saying you shouldn't) but this gonna be awkward for the ex. Musta been awkward for him to find this out too...somewhat..

Thanks guys :D Appreciate it!

@ BuDo, they are family, doh! Haven't you read anything? :P My gaming friend is her cousin. >_>

Besides it wouldn't be awkward because we have a very good friendship still, me and her.

Unless I completely misunderstood your post?

@ Clitrix I have met every single one of my friends in this community we have going :) You'd be surprised how much fun it is man. People are always so much nicer IRL, I see that time and time again. It's just amazing and so unique what we have. We have a cs:s team consisting of me and 5 others, and our other friends all support us etc when we attend lans. After our matches we go drinking and it has been super super amazing every single time we've doen it!

Seriously though guys, if you have a super awesome e-friend, go meet him/her. You won't regret it!

I second the "meet online people" thing. I've met some amazing friends online and haven't been raped by a pedo once! Later this year I'm taking a trip to Melbourne with a friend of mine to meet another e-friend who is good friends with my friend. Complex story I know, but she's amazing and I'm really looking forward to it :)

(I have to fly in a plane though and that's super scary as I've never done that before)

Awesome! Flying is cake btw, you are only scared until exactly 3 seconds after lift-off. Just think of how many ppl fly every day. It's really nice in fact, I truly enjoy flying by now :)

The only "real" scary moment for first timers is when the plane is about to lift off, it gets a huge speed boost and then the nose goes up after about 15 seconds, that is kinda weird that feeling, but that goes as soon as you go steadily up a few seconds later.

Nothing to be scared about bro, and trust me, few seconds after lift-off you will feel super comfy and releaved :D

I only date from the internet, but still, Cool story nontheless.

*sigh* But then again, most worlds are small, the game world, the gay world... You wouldn't know how many people I dated that also dated a friend of mine without knowing...

And the big shock when we find out is also cool haha :)

I had a similar thing happen in SRO. Back on Xian (when there was only 2 serves during the 60 cap) I was someone in Jangan called Soultrain. Soultrain is the online name that an old school friend of mine, Lance, used. Anyway, I asked if it was him and it was! I soon found out that a few people at school actually played SRO and the next day at school all we did was talk SRO. Memories :)
