Transhumanism

Post by aznronin »

Honestly I don't know what to make of this, but I think transhumanism is somewhat realistic even though the video seemed unrealistic. This idea started about two decades ago.

I guess we are limited and lifespan, intellectual capacity, body functions, sensibility, and self-control has been looked at for improvement.

I also found this video which really surprised me NSFW tho because a guy implants a magnet into his finger. He does this because it feels like an entirely new sense.

Digital technology is subjected to all sorts of failures not to mention it evolves fairly quickly.....who wants to be the first guinea pig to try out the first wave of tech implants? lol...

I'd laugh my face off if someone opted to have a chip planted in their brain to enhance intelligence only to have the chip fail and causing some sort of brain damage.

But not to completely knock the idea though it does has it usefulness..If my knee was blown out I wouldn't mind trying some kind of cyborg knee...Or if some poor grandma broke her hip bone she could benefit from this.

This is ultimately where humanity is heading. Where it must head, imo.

What if we are already in a matrix of sorts... if time is infinite or a fabrication of our brain then there could have been an infinite amount of 'time' before now for such a matrix to evolve to the complexity to create what we experience now. lolwut.

(I doubt it, but we'd have no way of knowing. Yes, a little off topic.)

I remember taking a course about GNR (Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics) and NBIC (Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Information Technology, and Cognitive Science) that wholly focused on their emerging contributions to transhumanism.

It all boils down to the transition from maintenance (e.g. cochlear implants for the deaf) to enhancement (e.g. implants for supersonic hearing). Bulk of our discussions ended up with the problem of the division of enhancements between those who can and cannot afford them. Add in Moore's Law and you get an increasing division between Transhuman 1.0 to 2.0 to 3.0 in a short period of time.

This wouldn't be a problem if the technologies involved were only mechanical such as in Robotics and, even Nanotechnology. You want better hearing? Just buy Super Hearing 2.0. Everyone gets Super Hearing 2.0, and in a couple of years when 3.0 comes out, everyone can also get it. This is not the same with Genetics.

Genetics and even to an extent, Biotechnology, is what creates the divide. Couple A gets IQ+1 genetic enhancement for their baby (for the sake of argument, let's just say genes control IQ). A couple of years later, IQ+5 gets developed and distributed. Couple B gets IQ+5 for their baby. Couple A's baby is stuck with IQ+1 and can't get IQ+5. A person's genome cannot just be replaced just as one replaces hearing enhancements. And let's not forget the myriad of other genetic enhancements.

And that's just one problem.
