It uses WebOS which is totally different. The good news is there are people working on an android 'hack' for it. Unfortunately I've read that it will be Android 2.3 instead of the tablet based 3.0 as Google has not released the source code for 3.0.

So essentially it's a good buy if Android is ported over, and a meh buy if not.

Even without the Android port, it's still pretty freaking nice. I'm using it as my on-campus web device now for classes and whatnots. I won't have to print out my slides anymore. I can just save em and bring em to class. No need to lug my heavy laptop around either since it's a 17".

For 99$.... Cheaper than the cheapest netbook, and from what I've seen, pretty much the same thing. With the sudden huge increase in users I'm pretty sure more apps and whatnots will be on the way.

I talked with some of the other people as I was waiting. Apparently BestBuy had sent out a mass shipment to all their stores over the course of yesterday. Some stores put them up right away, others received the stock late and waited til this morning to sell em.

Was out of town and farking missed this! No stores near me had them in stock except for one in a town about 3 hours away. I have a friend who lives there, asked him to go check... guy helping near the tablets had a sign around his neck that said "No more HP touchpads!". lmao. He said they sold out within 30 minutes of the shipment arriving.

BUT:

Notice the, "Coming soon". Rumor is HP is restocking soon...

Also, heard BB is getting another mass shipment Friday.

EDIT, WAT THE....

at first I was like do want.

Now I am just like eh. Even with android I have a netbook and an ipod touch. I don't need a tablet even if I could put it to good use.

I'm buying two 16GB ones. One to keep one to flip and pay for the first one... Assuming they really do have them back in stock this week.

Will be useful in class since the only portable computing device besides my ipod and phone is my hyoooge dell laptop that is about 5 years old.

.Ex HP Touchpad

HP for 99$?

HP Touchpad 16GB with webOS for $99.99 originally $400
HP Touchpad 32GB with webOS for $149.99 originally $500

Mad frenzy to get them and everywhere is sold out now. From what I've read at other forums a lot of best buys keep getting shipments in (or, were getting them, dunno now) and not really telling customers who asked... just luck of the draw really. Now, apparently HP is going to restock in the next few days, tomorrow maybe.

I just realized why this thread was created. 99$ for a Farking tablet? Hope this is in for Canada too. I'll hit FutureShop/BestBuy tom.

EDIT: **** MY LIFE

"HP Canada is out. Completely. FOREVA! Don't call them," Hp's Bryna Corcoran Tweeted on Thursday. She did say more were coming to the US, however could not offer a firm date."

Have several tabs open, HP.com, PC Richard, facebook touchpad hunt, twitter #HPtouchpad... going to wear out my F5 key all day tomorrow. :D

I WILL get one for $100 / $149. The challenge is just too great to pass up. It's a bummer my town sucks as far as big chain electronics stores go. Nearest BB is 40minutes away.

Sleep until 6am and then it begins!

EDIT, layout on the HP site changed... was different just an hour ago. When you click the notify button is says they are temporarily out of stock:

^ what the fu ck lol

OMGGGG FFAACKK I got my paycheck today..
I was planing to pay bills (100$)
Get a keyboard (piano) (170$)
and get my damn japanese book (50$)

AHH MAN, THIS IS TEASING ME THE HELL OUT!!
But, isn't a bit too suspicious? I mean HP, low price like suddenly, what the hell is going on? are they going to release a better one? This model is rather obsolete? Any source?

Edit: it is because of the HP Touchpad 4G?

I see it as a notepad with touch capabilities. Oh my god this would start up my Grade 12 so well. I just fav'd the "How to Contact Us" page of the closest BestBuy, Source and FutureShop so I can call them tomorrow.

Good luck to myself.

HP going out of service?!
Wait, that means if we get their touchpad... what's the point if it'll be discontinued?

HP will still honor their 1-year warranty support, but after that you're on your own. Of course with the number of these things flooding the market, it's pretty certain that this device will become user-supported.

Because they are leaving the hardware business, that's why.

They are losing millions at this price.

They should bow out of the hardware business indeed. They're a sad joke in that department.
